We all have somewhere we go to when we want to lose ourselves or somewhere we travel to to be the hero in our dreams. Where do you go when you want to escape either in reality, or in your imagination? Where's the place that you are the champion? What do you dream about doing when its wet outside or someone's getting on your nerves?
For me the beauty and rugged wilderness of Ardnamurchan is so deep in me that it is the natural backdrop for adventure and mystery. A place to imagine myself in and to escape to.
For those of you who love Ardnamurchan I hope you will feel the story, knowing the familiarity of the places. For those of you who don't it's high time you headed west out of Fort William along the ribbon of the B8009 and into another world. Kirsten finds her new world a wholly unexpected place. Join her and find it too!

Close your eyes and be transported to another world,
By isgibson@aol.com (Scotland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Stone Men (Paperback)
What wonderful pictures this book builds up in one's mind. For anyone that has ever lived in, visited or dreamed of the wild and wonderful rugged coastline of the West Coast of Scotland, this book is for you. Forget the fact that it is book for children of 9-11, it is for children of any age. I found myself engrossed in Kirsten's adventure and, well, I was nearly believing the story. The smell of sea air was in my nostrils, I could hear the gulls as they swirled around in the breeze, and I could feel the wiry machair grass beneath my feet. 'The Stone Men' comes to life in a way that few books manage. Empty words? absolutely not, I've just ordered another three books to give as Christmas presents. If you have a child that likes Harry Potter, Point Horror or Dahl, then buy this, I doubt if you'll be disappointed.

Fantasy, adventure, danger ...this story has everything,
By jannert "jannert" (Hamilton Scotland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Stone Men (Paperback)
What ever became of the Picts - Scotland's Stone Men? Ruins of their homes, the pictures they drew on rockfaces, the cairns they built lie all around us. But what happened to the Picts themselves? Their distinctive race simply vanished into time, blended with other races to become what we all are now - or so say the historians - but then young Kirsten stumbles on a secret which proves the historians wrong, and puts Scotland itself in danger. Held captive, alone, knowing that no one will believe her fantastic story even if she does manage to escape in time, Kirsten must find a way to do the right thing before the Orbed-time comes at last, and everything she loves most is destroyed... Set on the westernmost tip of Scotland's ancient seacoast, this atmospheric, exciting story is guaranteed to keep you up all night!

Adventure under Ardnamurchan.....,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Stone Men (Paperback)
This book is one of the most exciting books I've ever read. It's set on the west coast of Scotland in Ardnamurchan. Kirsten lives in a village called Plocaig, near the Glendrian Caves. It all starts when a curious Kirsten goes somewhere where she isn't supposed to be. The village had lost a bull, so at night they go and look for it. Kirsten insists on going and does go but in the end she gets lost. She gets found and captured by the THE STONE MEN!- an ancient race of Pictish people who live in a series of caves under Ardnamurchan. My favourite part is when Urik, one of the stone men, helps Kirsten escape from the caves. If you are getting this book and you like books which are slow and boring, then this isn't the book for you. However, if you like action-packed adventure books, this is your type of book.
