Product Description

Synopsis

Never before has DCI Woodend had to work under such terrible and terrifying pressure. He has just a few days, at the most, to find a flaw in the weighty evidence which led to Judith Maitland's conviction as a stone-cold killer - a few days to produce the real murderer. But what if Judith really is guilty as charged? What if she did, in fact, brutally butcher her lover, Clive Burroughs, in his own office, as the facts seem to suggest? How can Woodend produce the evidence when there is none to find? As the hostage situation becomes tenser - the hostage-takers increasingly nervous; the army itching to intervene at whatever the cost - Woodend realizes that unless he can find an improbable rabbit to pull out of the hat, the only way the siege will end is in carnage!

Woodend does it again 24 Nov 2007
Format:Paperback
Any Chief Inspector Woodend book will get at least three stars from me, it's just really a case of whether a particular book gets an "A" grade or and "A Star"! Sally Spencer's book Stone Killer is good quality police procedural and is an entertaining read. You start caring about the characters immediately; you even like the criminals involved which is unusual. Its fast pace with lively dialogue keeps you turning the pages. I read this one in a single sitting, but then I'm a quick reader. All detective fiction, or real life for than matter, relies on MOM motive opportunity and means. If there is any criticism of Stone Killer, I'd say the motive is a little weak, also what I think is the fault of a sub-editor there is what seems to be an unfortunate error at the beginning of Chapter One, Port-Said, would make better sense that port-side. Ignore my carping, it really is an excellent book, well plotted and enjoyable.
