An Overall Disappointing Effort 2 Jun 2007
By Steve Vrana - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Mark O'Connor is a gifted musician, make no mistake about that. But this 1987 release is sylistically disjointed and all too often a bit too bombastic. It succeeds best when it simplifies the music like on "Opus 36: New Lifetimes," a subtle duet between O'Connor on violin and Chet Atkins on gut string guitar. This album would have benefited from adopting the approach of that track and embracing the concept that sometimes less is more.

Fantastic work! 8 Dec 2007
By Greg Horn - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This is one heck of a great album, not sure what that other reviewer's problem is. I had this on vinyl years back and got the CD a few years ago, so I've had a lot of listening time over the years with this album. Mark is a very versatile musician and every track on this release is excellent! Great composition, great playing, great production, there's just a lot of great music here that is fun and enjoyable to listen to. HIGHLY recommended! And PS, guitar freaks, Mark gets some great tones out of a vintage 1956 Strat (courtesy of George Gruhn)on this album.
