Based around the events of a true story, 'Stone of Destiny' is an interesting and watchable 96 minutes. This film has a low budget and made-for-television feel about it, but the teledrama atmosphere doesn't detract from the end product or the atmosphere. If you're a Scottish nationalist you'll probably have a tear in your eye when cars horns beep and statues are commandeered with saltires when news of the bold raid breaks out, and even if you're not you'll still enjoy the tension and human interest stories behind the 4 young rebellious Scots.
The stone of destiny did, of course, finally head back to Scotland in an official capacity in the 1990s (albeit technically on loan as the final credits point out), but this daring raid probably played a part in raising the national consciousness of an independent/devolved Scotland. At the end of the day, no one got hurt and it was free advertising for Scottish nationalism. In the modern era they would no doubt have hired a publicist and launched a facebook campaign.
As for the movie, it's an interesting historical pic. I wasn't sure that some of the costumes entirely captured the attire of 1950, but one thing that was striking was the nostalgia of an 'age of innocence' when you could drive to London and have the road to yourself, not to mention park right outside Westminster Abbey without being hit by a congestion charge fee and a parking ticket.
