Biography

Motörhead's overwhelmingly loud and fast style of heavy metal was one of the most groundbreaking styles the genre had to offer in the late '70s. Though the group's leader, Lemmy Kilmister, had his roots in the hard-rocking space rock band Hawkwind, Motörhead didn't bother with his old group's progressive tendencies, choosing to amplify the heavy biker rock ... 5.0 out of 5 stars They are Motorhead...this is rock n roll! 26 Oct 2003
By U Dick VINE VOICE
Format:Audio CD
Ah, Motorhead. How we take them for granted. I`v been a fan for many years. Over the last few years, though, I haven`t bought many of their albums. I think it was after their extremly hard-to-find "Bastards" LP that I forgot about Lemmy and his ultimate brand of hard rock. When I heard this box set was coming out, it rekindled my interest.
First, the contents: 99 of the best Motorhead tracks, from the original Hawkind version of "Motorhead" right up to latest CD "Hammered", a replica concert poster and a book, full of glossy pictures, an essay and a comprehensive discography. The book alone is great but this is really all about the music.
We all know the classics "Ace of spades", "Overkill", "Bomber" etc. or you wouldn`t (or shouldn`t) be reading this. The thing that I like best about this collection is the newer material. Having neglected to get some of these newer albums I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of songs like "Don`t believe a word" or "Voices from the war". Maybe I believed the hype that Motorhead are "tired" or "rehashing" but that is a load of crap. These new songs are far better than anybody else who tries to exist in the same genre (not heavy metal but hard punk/rock). The live disc (disc five) contains lots of rare tracks, although the quality of some are a bit ropey as they come from bootleg sources. The rest of the stuff needs no introduction. It is great to hear 19 unreleased alternate takes and live tracks from various BBC sessions and soundtracks, including a truely creepy spoken word version of "Orgasmatron". The only real complaint I have with the tracklist is the inclusion of "Please don`t touch". I really don`t like it, but what do I know.

This is a 5 cd collection. Essentially a 4 cd "best of", and a live cd with some rare recordings. It is a pretty good collection of songs, and not necessarily the most obvious ones. Some classics are strangely absent, such as No Class, One to Sing the Blues and Born to Raise Hell: odd as Like a Nightmare is included, which was originally the B-Side of No Class. The most recent cd is weaker than the first three IMHO, and suffers from the fact that this compilation was put together before Inferno and Kiss of Death came out, which were Motorheads finest releases since Ace of Spades. The live cd contains some rare stuff, but the overall quality of the recordings is pretty poor. I suppose it was put together to appeal to the serious fans, who will already have most of the other recordings.

If you want a Motorhead compilation, either for yourself or someone else, this is probably the best one available.

This sample of Motorhead box set collection (definitive one) is nothing less than fantastic, astonished, amazing and ferocious. Beginning by the box content, great booklet full of great and excellent photos and a wonderful box set. A replica concert poster and a book, full of glossy pictures, a comprehensive discography. Just the book alone is great, but this is really all about the ferocious music.

Stupendous collection of music (the best quality) spanning Motorhead entire career with some rarities, awesome live stuffs and other amazing stuffs. That shows up a little bit about all the Motorhead crew in their entire career.

Despite the fact Motorhead is one of the world best heavy, rock and roll and trash metal band ever, and these aspects count a lot, this box set contains five CD's with a lot of great songs, actually 99 of the best Motorhead tracks.

What more could you ask for? In the world of rock and roll and heavy metal, Motorhead stands out.

What can I say? 5 great discs of fantastic songs, a great booklet, beautiful packaging, and all for very little $$.

If you like hard rock, you'd be crazy not to pick this up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest box set ever released? YES 27 May 2010
By J. A. Brown - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
WOW, what a collection. I purchased this when it was first released and I am still listening to it today. Too bad they never hit it in the states, the songs are as catchy as any Ramones song and heavier than Metallica.

Other great box sets: Bowie (Sound and Vision), Judas Priest (Metalogy), Sabbath (Black Box)
