Simply the Best 12 Aug 2002
Format:Audio CD
This album is simply the best I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. It's over 10 years since I first bought it on vinyl, but it still sounds as fresh and vibrant today as it did then. It captures the atmosphere and excitement of the live performance whilst not detracting from the original versions of the songs, most of which are absolute classics. I give it a 5 star plus rating - it's a must for any serious record/cd collection.

At their peak 26 Aug 2010

This is one of my all-time favourites; and although I have several by Rufus and Chaka Khan, this is the best in my opinion for all sorts of reasons. Not all concerts have such an atmosphere or magic, but this album fizzes with it, and the concert version here of Stop on By is packed with energy and emotion. Indeed all the tracks are full of energy and passion and the ecstatic appreciation of a captivated audience. While I have it already on vinyl and tape I also want it on CD - which must be some kind of a recommendation!

I first heard Do You Love What You Feel LIVE from this LP on the Greg Edwards Show (Capital Radio 12 Aug 1983). I immediately purchased the double LP. Now on CD it sounds even more amazing and certainly has not dated.

I believe the Live tracks here were recorded over two nights at the Savoy. Side Four (now the closing 4 studio cuts) were recorded in early 1983 with one of the four being the awesome "Ain't Nobody" heard here in its original superior form.

After the release of this LP by Rufus, the band featuring Chaka Khan on lead vocals went their separate ways with Chaka going on to record a string of solo hits.

The rest they say is history but Rufus were very very good as this live LP confirms. They were a product of the 70s soul scene and left the scene in 1983 at the very top of their game. What we have are wonderful memories that have stood the test of time without doubt.

May I recommend other LPs such as "Rufusised" and the rare "Street Player" which contains the outstanding studio version of Stay.
