Although the pretty much the whole film is predictable the dancing is out of this world. colunbus short is very impressive as an actor and this film proves he is not just a name in dancing. a very good role for meagan good as this is her first role as the female lead. good soundtrack and an enjoyable film

never has black fraternity and sonority been looked at in such an introspective manner which takes you to the grass root levels of american black culture as this dance drama set in the afro -american campuses of atlanta and decatur ,and this ranges from the most compelling music numbers from juice to neyo and chris brown .

the cult of underground street dancing is brought to a real high by SYLVAIN WHITE in his debut feature with a fresh talented cast who are talented dancers and actors to watch in future with the best stepping ever choreographed on screen and some stunning stage visuals .

the modern american urban dance culture is caught here by a contemporary style and soul where the script virtually has it's finger right on the pulse of the black dance myths in a cauldron of cultural clash within the black community without the unnecessary indulgence of any external patrons .

COLUMBUS SHORT is the young dancer who is both charismatic yet speculative to his roots as he is forced to immigrate from los angeles to atlanta after some gritty gangland violence which reflects on the disturbing reality of gun and drug culture though this is offset by the civilised campus black fraternities of the georgian capital and the gratuitous action gives way to class demarcation as he falls for rich and black MEAGAN GOOD ,a pretty co-ed who is engaged to DARRIN HENSON who is also the captain of the 7 time national dance champion fraternity on the same campus .

the rivalry evolves from class room to bedroom to dance stage and finally bursts into the most scintillating dance competitions on screen .

I bought this film for my girlfriend for her birthday since she generally loves dance films but we all (both of us and two friends) thought it was terrible. The plot was mundane and ultra, ultra predictable - not even bad enough to make it humorous I'm afraid. There were zero comedy moments too.
As for the dancing, we didn't get how anybody thought the dancing was impressive. Street tap dance appears to be the style and they seem to enjoy slapping their torso's in the style of gorillas to make it all seem a bit more manly. Don't expect great displays of athletics or gymnastics - just people stamping their feet quickly, that's all you get (except for the very first scene which actually has about 2 minutes of impressive and promising looking stuff in it).
There's also plenty of slow motion shots of peoples' mouths hanging opening in a chimpanzee like fashion and pulling bizarre expressions, so if you like your dancing with a hint of gurning then maybe this is the film for you after all.
If you're looking for enjoyment, watch an episode of "So you think you can dance" instead. You'll be much more impressed than you will be wasting nearly 2 hours of your life on this film.

I loved the film, You Got Served, but this is terrible! Everything about this film is a blatant copy of the film just mentioned. The actors (if you look closely at the dancers, you'll spot familiar faces), the fatal shooting, the departure and re-arrival of an important member of the team at a crucial point in the storyline, the girlfriend causing tension, the announcement of the 'winner'...
Unfortunately, its not easy to tell if the dancing is any good as theres too much fancy camera work and shooting from different angles and slowing down the framework... Disappointing...

I didn't know what to expect by this film, i watched the opening scene previously to buying the film, and didn't understand what was going on so stopped, but after watching it a second time i love this film, i even prefer this to step up.
This combines a very hip hop style dancing with college life and all its fraternities and sororities.
This film is based on two rival frats involved in hip hop dancing and ultimately ends in a dance off in national championships with amazing moves.
I definitely recommend this film to anyone who likes dance films, worth a watch. A real feel good movie

this film is brilliant!
purchasing this along with 'you got served' and 'step up 2: the streets', i was excited to see which film would be the best.
watching the films in the above order - 'you got served' was rather predictable but very good. however this film is much much better. the dancing is out of this world and the acting is also up to a good standard
columbus short and megan good have played their parts well!

10/10 :D
