"Stolen Legacy," by Dr. George G. M. James, is a controversial work first published in 1954. To the consternation of some, James dared to assert that the Greeks were not the authors of Greek philosophy, and that so-called Greek philosophy was in fact based upon the primary ideas and concepts borrowed-without acknowledgement-from the ancient Egyptians. Written during Dr. James tenure at the University of Arkansas, "Stolen Legacy" raises more thought-provoking questions and uncomfortable questions than it answers. Though many may disagree with James' findings, his book confirms the words of Solomon, "there is nothing new under the sun." Truth and wisdom has been in existence since time began. Greek culture learned much from the Egyptians. Alexander the Great and the Ptolemy dynasty were Greek, but they did not disturb the religion or the customs of the Egyptians, and indeed built magnificent new temples for the Egyptian gods. Ptolemy I, perhaps with advice from Demetrius of Phalerum, founded the Museum and Library of Alexandria, a key academic, literary, and scientific center which drew the top Greek scholars. In "Stolen Legacy," James shows how famous Greek philosophers such as Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle were heavily influenced by Egyptian culture, and how many of their teachings were what they had learned from the Egyptians.

About the Author
George G. M. James was born in Georgetown, Guyana, South America. His parents were Reverend Linch B. and Margaret E. James. George studied at Durham University in Britain and after a period at the University of London he gained his doctorate at Columbia University, New York, USA. He then qualified to teach mathematics, Latin, and Greek. Later he was Professor of Logic and Greek at Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina for two years, before working at the University of Arkansas, Pine Bluff. Dr. James was the author of the widely circulated Stolen Legacy: The Greeks Were Not the Authors of Greek Philosophy, But the People of North Africa, Commonly Called the Egyptians. It was first published in 1954 and is still in print. In this book, Dr. James seeks to prove, among others things, that the Ancient Greeks were not the original authors of Greek philosophy, which he claims was mainly based on ideas and concepts that were borrowed without acknowledgement, or indeed stolen, from the ancient Egyptians. Stolen Legacy was highly controversial, in large part because of several dubious historical assertions.

This book is full of truth and I'm sure that those contesting this are Greeks or White Europeans, refusing to even question their false history. It is well known that the Greeks learnt from the Egyptians and it appears to me, that the author is just clarifying this. Therefor, it's not a case of who the information belongs to but more importantly where the knowledge came from. Anyone denying the fact that civilisation began in Africa would just be outright ignorant. If one can accept this truth one would then look to Egypt and the remarkable teachings of the Egyptian people who were definitely black Africans. Lol, I suppose there will be one or two who will claim that the pale faced Egyptians that we see now had the same physical appearance centuries ago.
I only wish that these books were available to our children in school but of course that would never happen because the whole system is based on a lie.

This book has got some inaccuracies, but you cannot deny its facts. The Egpytians were great architects, mathematicians, philosophers, engineer, chemists and teachers.
Learned people around the world have marvelled at their knowledge but have failed to associate them with the world that we live in today. Is it because these Egyptians were black Africans, Pre Hyskos invaison. Instaed they rave about the Romans, Greeks and how great they were. It is as if Egypt has not contributed to the western world.
Those of us who know different, both learned and self taught, are fully aware of the influence that Egypt has had on todays world. Just look at the format of Washington DC, Memphsis or a dollar bill and you see a strong link.
All the author is trying to do is reclaim their accomplishments and point out the fact that the Greek philosophers, mathematicians were taught by these people.
This book will be rideculed for its flaws but more sadly because it ruffles the feathers of the establishment and questions what we have been told to date.

This phrase, although attributed to Socrates, was found on many of the temples of learning throughout Egypt long before Socrates existed. This is a very important mantra for people of African descent.
I personally was in a state of shame of being from African ancestry during the 70's as a young teenager. but upon spending 3 months in Africa at age 19, all that changed. Books such as this are critically important for US in order to debunk the distortions promulgated during this millennium against people of color, and in particular people of African descent. Regardless of what popular (white) culture's response is to this type of discovery, the important thing for US is to study for ourselves who we are and what we have contributed to the development of the human race. Who cares what THEY think!!!! WE should be well aware of the extent to which THEY will go to remain the superior force on this planet (slavery, world war, historical distortions, genocide, cultural genocide, economic sanctions, etc..).
Books such as this and those written by Jochannen, Diop, Van Sertima, Bernal, Al-Mansour, and others, prompt US to re-evaluate everything WE were taught (programmed) to be true. The revelations exposed through the works of these writers, should be the foundation of learning for all of OUR subsequent generations.
What I find to be most interesting is the fact that since the works here prompt so much debate, why is it that we do not see not only some of the debate itself, but also some of the factual discoveries borne by the works of these authors on channels such as TLC, A&E, or Discovery. Since WE now have OUR own voice in the national broadcasting world, I think BET should pursue this area further so that more of our younger generation can gain knowledge in these areas. Black History should not be limited to one month, and should not be limited to the civil rights era especially when it spans thousands of years.
It is important that WE lift the veil of ignorance OURSELVES and really take a look at everything WE feel WE know to be true. One of my favorite misconceptions is that of certain aspects of the Bible. How many of you know that the 10 Commandments can be found within the 42 Negative Confessions of the Metu Neter, a holy book written long before Moses or the Bible.
WHAT HAVE WE BEEN TAUGHT, AND WHY?
Stolen Legacy is an excellent book to start questioning the current world order.
