Book Description

In the bestselling tradition of Forget You Had A Daughter and Hannah's Gift, the story of a mother's loss and a family's fight

Product Description

To lose one child is terrible; to lose two is unimaginable. For no one to believe that you are innocent of their deaths and to be imprisoned because of it must be unbearable.

Yet this is the reality Sally Clark had to face. The daughter of a policeman, wife of a solicitor and a solicitor herself, just when she was grieving from the tragic death of her second child the system she'd always believed in turned against her. Justice suddenly seemed a far-off principle as she was convicted and her initial appeal quashed. Her family, lawyers and various volunteers were relentless in their fight to clear her name. Finally, following three long years in prison, suffering abuse and the bleak horrow of bereavement, Sally Clark was finally acquitted by the Court of Appeal in 2003.

Her release caught the nation's attention, and paved the way for succesful appeals by wrongly convicted mothers such as Angela Canning. Written with the power of a thriller, the book is a tragic but ultimately uplifting story of a mother's love and a family's gutsy fight for what they knew to be right.

A very moving story. This was one of those rare books I read that I really didn't want to put down. I didn't find the medical terminology to be difficult, the explanations and quotes chosen allowed any interested reader could follow the events. I spend most of the book just wondering to myself "what will I do if this ever happens to me?" I didn't really know the case very well before I read this book, so I can't say whether the author's perspective was unbiased but the facts of the case alone and the false conviction are enough to leave me with a deep sense of shame to live in a country where such events take place and the fear that these events could so easily happen again. A highly recommended read for everybody.

This book was hard for me to put down from the minute I picked it up. To see the Criminal Justice system fail time after time is beyond belief. Sally Clark tells the story in her words, also her husband but the book is mainly written by the author John Batt a family friend, who must be now perceived as family with all the help & support he gave during all of the hard times the clark family went through!

Defintley worth reading!

I enjoyed this book, found it abit hardgoing with all the legal terminology and reading chapters and comments from different people. A real eye opener towards the British Justice System. Think this was the first book I have ever read with tears in my eyes!
