2.0 out of 5 stars Not for the squeamish 7 July 2006

From the back cover:

Daring physician...

Death was his enemy, and Stephen Ashworth fought it with his skill as a surgeon, though his methods shocked all of London and made some call him a devil. With his flashing eyes, firebrand ideals, and unyielding passions he was a fallen angel who could damn a lady's heart...

Unconventional lady...

Linette Gregory felt the young Dr. Ashworth must be stopped, and she was the woman to do it. She believe him a cold unfeeling scientist, and yet from their first meeting, she felt flames of passion coursing through her blood...

Feverish desire...

In a London awhirl in pestilence and turmoil, Linette and Stephen were rivals. She held the power to ruin his career, and he could break her heart, sweeping away her innocence in one savage kiss. Yet when they were thrust together to save a young girl's life, a tenderness that blossomed between them grew into the healing power of love...

And my review:

"Not for the squeamish" seems like a strange thing to say when reviewing a romance novel, but when it comes to STOLEN HEARTS, it is absolutely true! The book starts off with grave robbers stealing a body and selling it to the hero. Then the book talks about the hero dissecting the body to teach his medical students about anatomy. Ewwww!

When I read romance, I want to get the "warm fuzzies". I want to be moved to sighs and tears. Being moved to lose my lunch is definitely not what I'm looking for!

Not that I'm a "fluff" romance reader, but reading about blood and gore is not what I want when I pick up a romance novel. I can't say much else about this book, because I couldn't get past this nauseating beginning. (I was left wondering if the title meant something other than romance!) If you're not squeamish, then you might enjoy STOLEN HEARTS. If you are, you'll want to skip it.
