5.0 out of 5 stars Stolen Childhood 9 April 2011
By Zebra
Format:Paperback
This book is a compelling read, once you start you can't put it down, you will be drawn in. What is amazing is not that Laila survived it all but that she was able to be restored from all the years of abuse and go on to be a successful mother, wife and grandmother. A great story of courage and hope in the face of adversity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stolen Childhood 15 Mar 2011
By Ghonour
Format:Paperback
A heart wrenching book that relives the torment of a child searching for freedom. I virtually read the book in one go as I had to know how the next page of her life was to unfold. I really thought at times, can it get any worse? How can someone see hope through all of this; and yet she came out on top amazingly! How you may ask - you need to read the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant! 9 Mar 2011
Format:Paperback
My Mum gave me this book for christmas, its not the type of book that i would usually read but i decided to give it a go. I could not put it down!!! It made me so grateful for the childhood i was given by my mum and i cannot believe that parents and other family members could act this way to their children. Laila has written this book brilliantly and im sure she will inspire so many people and show them that you can survive anything!!! Absoloutly loved it!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The power of forgiveness 5 May 2011
By Hilary
Format:Paperback
I read this book all the way through in one day and I felt most moved by Laila's courage and honesty in writing her story for others.

The book touched me in unexpected ways and reminded me how God does not want me or anyone else to get stuck in our past or even present pain or to remain locked in any guilt. Parts of Laila's story were really personal to me and the way she made sense of what happened to her gave me a fresh view on healing and forgiveness.
I would recommend this book heartily and I hope that anyone else who reads it will be blessed through it as I have been.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read 3 May 2011
By fayeJ/C
Format:Paperback
Rarely have i read a book with such raw, honest and intimate reality. Stolen Childhood brought me face to face with a little girl "Laila" that was'nt afraid of dying but afraid of living. All of us have struggled with how messy life can be, but the life of this little girl was unimaginable. It was hard for me to believe that a little girl would bang her head against a cot to escape the pain of being awake, and i sobbed as i read of how at the age of 8 she was trying to commit suicide. You will cry over the pages of this book because it bleeds real life experiences that are painful.
There is however in all of the mess and chaos a message that's amazingly hopeful to the reader. Laila explains how her shattered life was rebuilt and restored. No matter what your status in life, strong or weak, rich or poor, famious or normal, stolen childhood is going to grip you when you read it and hold you by the hand to escort you on a journey from brokeness to wholeness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Read 3 May 2011
Format:Paperback
This is an absolutely fantastic and inspiring true story. It's one of those books that are hard to put down once you start reading it. It's an emotional journey with a happy ending. Although the story can be very sad to read at times it also has an aspect of humour in it. The writer has written her story in a very down to earth manner, which I love. Great read.. highly recommmended! :)
