Great Book for Kids and Adults 20 Sep 2010
By Esther - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is excellent: entertaining, informative, and very attractive to look at. After I read the book, I ordered 15 copies for holiday giving. Who Stole Mona Lisa tells a true story about how the painting was stolen, but written from an unusual point of view - Mona Lisa's. The words are witty, and the illustrations are imaginative and very detailed. The reader will want to examine the pictures closely to pick up all the funny touches. The book is a rare gem because it presents its story so skillfully that both kids and adults can enjoy it - and learn something too.

Charming story of the Mona Lisa 3 Jun 2011
By Z Hayes - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
There is a magnet with the image of the Mona Lisa on our refrigerator (purchased at a museum store), and my six-year-old asked me about the painting the other day. We looked up information on the web, and then came across this book at our local library. The intriguing title had us both excited to read more about it, and I'm glad we did. The story is written in an entertaining fashion, recounting the story of how the Mona Lisa painting came to be, and the adventures she had. The story is told from the painting's point of view, which makes for a fun and engaging read. The painting recounts her origins, how she came to be as the result of Leonardo Da Vinci's artistic genius (inspired by the young Italian, Lisa Gherardini), and how she came to live in France under the reigns of various kings, until Napoleon eventually donated her to the Louvre Museum in Paris.

My daughter and I enjoyed reading about the theft of the Mona Lisa from the Louvre, recounted in a suspenseful manner, and had my young child closing her eyes, hoping nothing bad would befall the adored painting. Happily, all ends well, and the illustrations by Jill McElmurry coupled with the humor-infused text by Ruthie Knapp make this a delightful yet informative read. If only most history texts were written in such an entertaining manner!

My daughter's current favorite 29 Sep 2010
By Eliza - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
Ever since we got "Who Stole Mona Lisa," my six year old daughter has insisted that I read it to her at least twice a day. She likes the book because the story is unlike any she usually hears - there are no princesses, talking animals or plot twists that you can spot from a mile away. The story is original, and further, it captured my daughter's attention because it is about something REAL. With each reading of "Who Stole Mona Lisa," she searches the illustrations for details she had missed before - the expressions on people's faces, the unique styles of clothing - and she always finds something new. I can tell that we are going to be reading this one for a long time, and I look forward to sharing some copies with my friends.
