5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and Inspiring 1 Oct 2013
By Daisy - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I absolutely loved this book. It's full of wonderful floral designs and vibrant colors that make the heart sing just to look at them. It consists of three sections: an introduction to color theory and guide to embroidery basics and stitches, 20 projects, and 267 additional motifs. The author's design aesthetic is very appealing to me, and her color sense is terrific.

The color information is very useful, providing an overview of color theory and guidance on how apply the theory to the practical task of picking out color schemes for embroidery projects. There are also color exploration exercises, helpful for those who (like me!) tend to get stuck in a rut of a few favorite color schemes.

There's plenty of advice on preparing fabric, types of thread, embroidery tools and transfer methods, along with clear, well-illustrated instruction on the techniques and stitches used in the projects, which makes the book inviting and approachable even for the absolute beginner.

I found the instructions to be clear and concise -- even the more complex projects shouldn't be out of reach for an adventurous beginner, and there's plenty to interest more experienced stitchers as well. There are 20 projects, with something for many different levels of skill and experience. Most craft books with projects will only have a few that I want to make, but there are easily a dozen or more projects in this book that I want make. There are lovely embellishment projects, such as a little girl's skirt, an embellished bedding set, and a delightful Mexican folk art-inspired blouse. There are also quite a few sewing projects, ranging from easier projects like the cheerful pom-pom luminaries and a microfiber-lined glasses case (a brilliant idea - my glasses always come out of their hard-shell case all dusty!) to ones involving somewhat more complex sewing, such as a calendar framed in embroidered motifs and a beautiful appliqued baby quilt. I personally can't wait to get started on the calendar and the dala horse projects in particular.

The last section contains 267 motifs, with a great variety of floral and leafy motifs as well as border and corner designs. The accompanying CD has digital files for all the projects and motifs. The project templates are in PDF format, and the motifs are all available in both EPS and JPEG formats.

All in all, I can't recommend this book highly enough. It's beautiful and inspiring, filled with lovely projects.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful motifs! 11 Oct 2013
By CuteEverything - Published on Amazon.com
I've been using embroidery to embellish all kinds of items since I was a child. Actually, my daughter has caught on to that idea, too, and, like me, she loves to add little touches to pillow cases, bed sheets, t-shirts, fabric bags and more. It's so fun to have a little unexpected sweet surprise where people least expect it!

Stitched Blooms has so many awesome motifs that are based in flowers, leaves and other natural elements. It has over 300 ideas in the book (and the included CD), plus it shows different ways to use the motifs, including a baby quilt, dala horse, wall art and more. I have so many favorites and have already added a few to my projects. I especially love the classic English, Scandanavian and Mexican designs!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loving to Embroider Again 5 Nov 2013

Illustrations are clear and bright. CD is a big help in copying the patterns. I love the fact that these are a lot more modern, with new ideas for color and design. I've taken plain, hemstitched linen napkins and am in the process of creating lovely gifts that I think will appeal to all ages.

5.0 out of 5 stars totally amazing! 28 Mar 2014
By Jacqueline Strand - Published on Amazon.com
Finally! A book that delivers what the descriptions promise. I totally am in love with this book. I had been searching for designs/motifs for a Mexican peasant blouse I was making and this book even includes designs just for such a blouse. But so much more as well. Anyone that loves hand stitching and/or embroidery will find this book invaluable. I can now easily embellish my granddaughters dresses, disguise holes in my jeans with the motifs, and create an entire project with the motifs included. This book provides lots of fun ideas.

4.0 out of 5 stars Creative Inspiration 8 Feb 2014
By SameliasMum - Published on Amazon.com
If you enjoy embroidery, or know someone who does, this book is a fantastic resource. Not only does it cover all of the basics about embroidery, including gorgeous projects, but it also provides the building blocks to creating your own designs and projects.

The book is divided into three sections: Introduction, Projects and Motifs. The projects are quite unique and suitable for most sewing levels while the motifs are just gorgeous. The CD (which comes with the book) allows the needleworker to print up designs in any size they'd like, and create their own projects by mixing and matching.
