Amazon.co.uk Review

Disney sets a record for bringing out a direct-to-video sequel after the initial film. Stitch: The Movie arrives only a year after the enjoyable Lilo & Stitch and reunites the title character (otherwise known as Experiment 626) with his earth-bound family in the warm Hawaiian sun. The story has a nice set-up: since Stitch is Experiment 626, where are the first 625 invented by Dr Jumba Jookiba? Odds are the island paradise will soon be spaceport central for many more aliens. As with other made-for-video Disney titles, the animation is not as complex or rich. This hurts this sequel even more since the original film had such a unique, pastel beauty. Unfortunately, the other elements of the film are just as flat. Even though most of the original voice cast returns, the entire production lacks the same spirit and charm, and the story's theme is recycled (get ready for more "Ohana means family"). On the plus side, the film starts with an Elvis Presley song ("Slicin' Sand") and is only 64 minutes long. The movie sets up the Disney TV series The Adventures of Lilo & Stitch. --Doug Thomas

From the Back Cover

We all know Stitch was "Experiment 626" – but did you ever wonder about the first 625? Now you’ll find out! Stitch! The Movie follows the fun-filled, heartwarming antics of the lovable, troublemaking little alien who splashed down to Earth and touched the lives of Lilo and her extended family. Now Stitch, Pleakley and Jumba are all part of the family. But what Lilo and Stitch don’t know is that Jumba smuggled his first 625 alien experiments to Earth … and now the evil Captain Gantu wants those other aliens back. It’s up to Lilo and Stitch to rescue his out-of-this-world family and save the experiments.

Get ready to meet 625 outrageous new "cousins", including Experiment 221, who causes island-wide power surges, and Experiment 625 … a little lazier than Stitch, but he makes great sandwiches! It’s time for fun with an alien island of adventure!

If this was Lilo and Stitch again, it would be a 5, but a disney sequel is never as shiny as the first. However, the writing, and voices, and humor is all absolutely spot on, fantastic. There are moments of outright laughter, and moments of "Ahhh, bless".

Python fans will love the Evil Badguy (not going to give anything away, but I was in tears), Cobra is still as menacing as ever, Stitch still lost, and Plinkley plays a much bigger part (and has a tendancy to steal Nani's clothes and get phonecalls from Womens Clothing stores confirming orders which he venomently denies have anything to do with him). All the characters and voices are in there at peak performance. And just how Does Jumba answer that phone?

Well well worth a place in any collection, and though only 1 hour long looks like to be the start of an interesting series.

lilo and sticth return in this wonderful seqel to the original movie. In this the focus is more on stitch becoming part of lilo's family, rather than being a pet. It shows his resourcefulness and practicality rather than being a little monster. My little girl throughly enjoyed this movie aswell as myself. It was a rollercoaster of laughs and tears as the plot unfolded. Towards the end of the film stitch becomes more part of the fsmily and less of being a little monster aswell as lilo's sister and boyfriend making the family whole rather than a broken one. throughly enjoyable even moreso than the first movie.

Despite some shoddy animation, this film sequel/TV series prequel does contain the same warmth, humour and ohana as the original film.

The only thing that really lets it down is the animation. Boring backgrounds, with blocky main characters who sometimes have thick black lines around them, it is not as beautiful looking as it should have been.

But all the original characters are present and correct in all their good-natured humour. Stitch is his usual manic, bad self, who you just can't help but love. And the cross-dressing Pleakley seems quite out of place in a Disney film, but all the better for it!!

The storyline is fairly dull. Stitch has to capture another experiment, but it sets up the TV series well. The ending is also quite action packed and exciting.

However, the morals that it tries and force down our throats are the same morals that were seen in the original film, and so seem a litte redundant here. Even so, the focus on family and friendship is always welcome, and only the cold hearted will not feel the tug on their heart strings.

It would have been nice to have a making of documentary to know a little more about the background of the film, but this disc's extras only include some games that will keep kids happy, and a music video.

Still, for a straight to DVD film, it's not too shabby, enjoyable at times, and its downright cute.
