While the Wu-Tang Clan are unquestionably one of the finest groups to ever enter the hip-hop arena, their recent work has been sketchy at best. Unfortunately 'The Sting' is yet another example of the Wu trashing their fierce reputation with lazy beats and repetitive verse.
The album starts reasonably well, with the recent single 'Killa Beez', (a decent beat with a catchy hook) predictably though, it all goes downhill quickly. Tracks like 'Doe Rae Wu', 'Take Up Space' and 'Woodchuck' are little better than dirges and frankly the Wu should be embarrased to have their name on the album.
The 'Killa Beez' albums have been a chance for other, lesser-known Wu-Tang affiliates to take the spotlight, however, 'The Sting' makes it painfully obvious that many of them are not good enough to be thrust into the spotlight. Just like the previous effort 'The Swarm', this is a lazy piece of work that will no doubt sell because it has the Wu's name branded on it. That is a real shame because it really doesn't deserve to.
