Could be good if the writer was able to write!!,

This review is from: Still Small Voice: Practical Introduction to Counselling in Pastoral and Other Settings (New Library of Pastoral Care) (Paperback)
The book is aimed at people embarking on a counselling course for the first time. The book contains information on how to listen, boundaries and other ground rules for counsellors. However, the book is somewhat outdated. The language used is terrible. Michael Jacobs clearly lacks the ability to put his point across in one paragraph, normally it takes at least 6/7 paragraphs to say one things. This makes the subject matter rather tedious for the reader and you are always under the impression that you have already read this!On the other hand, when you have sifted through the ridiculous writing style most of what is conveyed is of value although certain points, such as those on body language are now outmoded and in a counselling situation certainly not appropriate. If you are not of a christian religion this book can seriously get on your nerves with the constant referals to clergy, churhworkers etc. Real life is somewhat different to M. Jacobs perception. However, if you are prepared to sift through the jargon, ignore the politically incorrect statements, blank out the church it can be a useful book to first year counselling students.
