5.0 out of 5 stars A magnificent return to form! 21 July 2006
By M. D. P. Meechan VINE VOICE
After the hit-and-miss fourth series and a below average Christmas special, Still Game returned to form in this fifth series. Series five doesn't have one single weak episode, and even when the premise seems flimsy (such as in Hard Nuts) there are plenty of laughs to keep you watching. The outstanding character in this series is Paul Riley's Winston, who gets some of the best jokes, and there are stellar performances (as usual)from the entire cast. Series five saw Still Game become the top-rated comedy series on BBC2 (beating shows from Steve Coogan and Catherine Tate) and deservedly so, as it is perhaps the best series so far of Scotland's greatest sitcom.

4.0 out of 5 stars Victor And Jack Are Back! 8 Oct 2007
If you have not seen Still Game you're missing out - two pensioners living in Craiglang, Glasgow show us what life is like after 65, and their opinions on modern life. They hang out with Tam, Isa and Winston and get on well with barman Boabby and grocer Navid.

Series 5 sees some funny moments, like Jack and Victor getting absolutely hammered in the distillery, Jack, Victor and Vinston getting lost on a boat, yet managing to tame a bunch of "neds"; and the episode where the guys give a young lad a stag night to never forget!

Everything looks gloomy when Winston goes away, but the boys soon change that and have a great time.

Excellent light hearted comedy that can be enjoyed by all, Jack and Victor are really strong characters and have a great supporting cast. My favourites include Navid, Boabby and Isa as they're always entertaining.

Shame about the DVD not having the Hogmanay special - but this is still well worth getting, though it would be more wise to get all 5 series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still brilliant ! 25 July 2006
I love this show - easily the funniest thing to have been on TV for ages! Don't worry about the broad Scottish accents - after a while you understand them perfectly...and having these episodes on DVD means you can go back and catch the jokes you missed first time around.

Packed with great, funny, loveable characters there isn't a weak performance in the whole cast, and the whole thing is so well-observed you'd swear these people exist...This show is a must-see. I hope this series goes on for a long time yet...

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Funny 20 May 2013
I don't think there has been a single bad episode in all the series made of this, and this the fifth series is still as funny as ever. Jack and Victor visiting a distillery is a laugh, and it always makes me think of the cider farm I once visited where the man giving out the free tasters was one over the top himself. When Jack and Victor volunteer to do the decorating for Isa you just know things will go wrong, and with decorating soon coming up in this house I don't think I will be far behind these two when it comes to disaster (although I am less clumsy than I used to be).

Navid decides to make himself younger - yes - he has reached that stage; filming takes pace in The Clansman along with other great comedy this is a gem to watch. But with Winston moving to the coast will things change? Find out when Jack and Victor visit him. If you have never watched Still Game before it doesn't matter what series you start with, you will enjoy them all. And if you don't know what to get your father for his birthday you will see in one episode what not to do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Game - Still funny!! 7 Mar 2008
I was always a great fan of Rab c Nesbitt and chewin' the fat, from whence Jack and Victor came!! Still game is in my opinion a clever yet poignant observation of life in Glasgow for these 2 pensioners. The script is well written and the characters never fail to make you laugh to the point of crying, on occasion. I would recommend watching the whole series, in chronological order to see how well these characters have survived!!...more please!!

I have been a fan of Still Game since I first saw it in 2004. It is always hilarious to watch what scrapes the two lead characters, Jack and Victor, get into as well as their many close friends like Navid, who is a scream at times, Isa, Winston and a few others get into.

It is always well written and at times not just funny but poigniant as well. One of my favourite epsiodes is the one where Jack and Victor go to Central Station to pick up Victor's son and family. Asides from the scripts, what also makes this great is that Jack, Victor and co always say things to the ignorent people that most of us would only dream of, especially Navid and his wife Mina.

If you liked comedies like Rab C Nesbitt or Father Ted then you'll surely lap this up because it's great. I hope that they make many more seasons and perhaps one day a feature film. *****

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Game, still great. 8 April 2014

Still Game, if your browsing wondering to buy this do so. This isn't just a Scottish-centric sitcom. Nor is it Last of the Summer Wine with swearing (and humour and gags if it come to that!). It is so much better than that. This is a funny laugh out loud series with moments too of real emotion that is still wearing well.

Another selection of crazy situations Jack and Victor find themselves in. If you've liked the other series, you'll enjoy this one too.
