As Mike Scott has said, more people will hear his music if it is released under the name of The Waterboys. As sad as it is true, this is a real shame. 'Still Burning' is a neglected gem of an album and likely to please even the most ardent Waterboys fan, bridging the gap between Scott's Big Music and later folk inclinations.
Those who were disappointed by the rather lacklustre 'Bring 'em all in' will find Scott back on top electric form here. As he states in 'Sunrising', "After all this time I'm still on the line, with a case to prove and a public to move". And move us he does; the soul searching lyrics of 'My dark side' and 'Dark man of my dreams' are complimented by the upbeat 'Love anyway' and 'Rare, precious and gone'. Like the rest of Scott's music, this will raise the hairs on yours arms and leave you wondering whether you've really got everything figured yet.

I've had this album for over a year and love every minute of it. My particular favorites are Strawberry Man, Open, and Love Anyways. The break in Strawberry Man absolutely rocks and Love Anyways harkens back to the days of a Bang On the ear and Fishermans Blues. You don't want it to end. Dark Man Of My Dreams delves into a bit of shamanistic madness. One of many rescuers is a classic which invokes to me images of the deathraft of the Medusa. King Electric is another homage of Mikes to Jimmy Hendrix and Davey Flynn (Mikes first guitarist). Obviously both of these gents had a spirit that affected Mike profoundly. The rest of the songs are all top rate but a bit more reflective. This album is a must buy for any Waterboys fan.

A wonderful collection of albeit in name Waterboys songs. "Love Anyway" & "Rare Precious and Gone" are classic Scott, rousing heartbreakers, both deserve to have been No. 1 singles. Don't let the fact that Scott was recording as himself put you off; this is better than some Waterboys albums.
