As Mike Scott has said, more people will hear his music if it is released under the name of The Waterboys. As sad as it is true, this is a real shame. 'Still Burning' is a neglected gem of an album and likely to please even the most ardent Waterboys fan, bridging the gap between Scott's Big Music and later folk inclinations.
Those who were disappointed by the rather lacklustre 'Bring 'em all in' will find Scott back on top electric form here. As he states in 'Sunrising', "After all this time I'm still on the line, with a case to prove and a public to move". And move us he does; the soul searching lyrics of 'My dark side' and 'Dark man of my dreams' are complimented by the upbeat 'Love anyway' and 'Rare, precious and gone'. Like the rest of Scott's music, this will raise the hairs on yours arms and leave you wondering whether you've really got everything figured yet.
