This is the 2002 BBC production of the classic tale Stig of the Dump
. Barney a young shy boy who, with only his older sister for company, is spending a lonely summer with his grandparents when he makes the discovery of his life. He's chased by the village bullies and tumbles down an overgrown quarry. There, in the magical world of the quarry floor, he meets a figure with shaggy hair and two bright eyes. Stig is a caveman, hundreds of thousands years old, but gradually he and Barney learn to understand one another.
Together they raid the rubbish dump at the bottom of the quarry, using the things the villagers throw away to improve Stig's cave, and so begins a special friendship, and a story which has charmed children and adults alike ever since it was first published in 1963.
Full of wonderful special effects from the creators of beasts in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, this production won an International Emmy Award and a BAFTA.
