Book Description

14 Sep 2010
Stickers features approximately 4,000 stickers from the exploding, vibrant world of street art, DIY culture, music, and branding. Cheap, democratic, easy to "tag," and not always fast to fade, the sticker has been an ever-present medium from the New York and London underground punk scene to skate culture and political expression. Celebrating the graphics of this street-art medium, Stickers illustrates the timeline of this pastime, from counterculture to politics. Stickers includes approximately 4,000 sticker graphics organized by categories and themes, with works by such diverse artists as Raymond Pettibon and Jenny Holzer; street artists such as Banksy, Neck Face, and Barry McGee; and amateur artists who "tag" the streets anonymously. With texts from artists and writers, including Swoon, Stanley Donwood, ESPO, Clayton Patterson, Carlo McCormick, and Michael Betancourt, Stickers illustrates not only the visual and social history of sticker art but also the personal relationship that street artists and pedestrians alike have with stickers. The book includes eight sheets of stickers, most of which are original works, by artists such as Barry McGee, Ryan McGinness, and José Parlá.

3.0 out of 5 stars Barely any actual stickers in the book 14 Dec 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
It's my own fault: I misread the description, thinking that the book contained "approximately 4,000 sticker[s]"... but it contains sticker GRAPHICS. There are 8 pages of actual stickers in the back of the book. The book itself looks good and is inspirational, so I won't be returning it as it's very reasonably priced too.

This book is an incredible journey through street art. So comprehensive, it is almost dizzying with the depth to which it is researched and the catalog of art included. A book for EVERY coffee table, it will be a conversation piece for years to come, as well as a resource for anyone interested in statement art/street art of the 70's,80's,90's and 2000-2010. Buy it! Great gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars From the Street to the Gallery 16 Oct 2010
By trying to help - Published on Amazon.com

To be brief, if you have even a passing interest in Punk Rock, Graffiti Art, Rave Culture, Club Culture, Sub Culture or just Graphic Design, this book is an absolute must have. Essays by the Authors and Shepard Fairey beautifully connect the dots from the sub culture of sticker design, production and broadcast to its influence on our every day lives. The book is wonderfully, curated, and the design on the pages is beautifully laid out. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

5.0 out of 5 stars A new look on art..? 9 May 2011
By Katherine Weston - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I won't lie I was just interested in it for the stickers, but after reserching a little on the book I found it is really informative. I have seen these images everywhere, but didn't know what they were or what they ment. I really like all media of art work and I never thought that stickers could be contemporary art, but it really is. This was a great find of a book! Thank you.
