DVD Description

Of all the British film greats to emerge from the late 1930s, none made such a lasting impact on the costume drama, epic adventure or melodramatic tear-jerker than Stewart Granger.

Acting was in the familys heritage--Grangers grandfather was the celebrated stage tragedian Luigi Leblanche. It was prophetic that he would inherit his grandfathers dashing good looks, confident acting style and name.

Born James Leblanche Stewart in London on 6th May 1913, his first professional ambition was a career in medicine but hastily decided it wasnt the life for him and left before completing his preparatory studies. Bewitched by tales of his famous relation, he decided to cement a blossoming interest in acting.

This DVD collection showcases some of the films that made Stewart Granger famous including:The Lamp Still Burns, Love Story, Fanny by Gaslight, Madonna of the Seven Moons, Waterloo Road, Caesar and Cleopatra, Caravan, The Magic Bow, Captain Boycott, Blanche Fury, Woman Hater, Adam and Evelyne

What a collection! Gypsy dancing, tight trousers, slick hair, whatever you want really, except that it does not contain the one film I wanted "Footsteps in the Fog". However that still is available.

I good watch with chocolate and chardonnay!

5.0 out of 5 stars Handsome is as handsome does!, 19 April 2011
This review is from: Stewart Granger Collection [DVD] (DVD)
It is said that Stewart Granger was the last of the swashbucklers. Before he became one in Hollywood he was the essential dashing hero of British films during and shortly after the war. This collection proves he was a great actor with looks to match. It is well to accept that the stories and some dialogue are from another age but then what's wrong with that? They are an insight and an education into moments of history, melodrama and even good grammar! The quality of these dvds is excellent and has two films in colour. But black and white or colour, Stewart Granger was the most handsome of all.
