DVD Description

In the year that Motown Records reaches its half-century, lifelong Motown artist and music legend Stevie Wonder, universally regarded as one of the few true geniuses in modern music, releases his first-ever live concert DVD, Live At Last. The DVD was filmed at the O2 Arena in London over two nights, September 30 and October 1, 2008, before a rapturous audience of 15,000 each night. The concerts were part of the first Stevie Wonder world tour in over a decade which sold 120,000 tickets in the UK alone. Live At Last’s set list traces a lifetime of innovation and accomplishment--and, in fact, our own lifetime appreciation of his music, stretching from Wonder’s teens with “My Cherie Amour” and “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours.” Along the way, the show encompasses all the classic hits that redefined pop and R&B music, including “Superstition,” “Higher Ground,” “Living For the City”, “You Are the Sunshine of My Life” and “I Wish”, while reaching into his classic albums for such enduring fan favorites as “All I Do,” “Overjoyed” and “Knocks Me Off My Feet”. The exuberant “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing” is preceded by Wonder’s interpretation of Chick Corea’s instrumental “Spain”. And in a delightful, impressive and emotional moment, Wonder’s daughter Aisha Morris--the inspiration of his classic “Isn’t She Lovely”--steps from the background vocal group and performs Nat “King” Cole’s jazz standard “I’m Gonna Laugh You Right Out of My Life”. Wonder also takes time out in the set to salute the British audience with an affectionate medley of two Beatles songs (“Fool on the Hill”, “I Want To Hold Your Hand”) and a Rolling Stones classic (“[I Can’t Get No] Satisfaction”), book-ending them with the traditional “London Bridge is Falling Down”.

Stevie Wonder,a quite superb artist songwriter and musician and has been so for many years. Here live in 08 at the O2 we see him with a simply cracking funky band with a host of great songs giving everyone a party. He has that great gift of involving the audience,of creating a dance atmosphere instead of a concert.I wasn't there but the quality of this beautifully filmed DVD brings you as close as any recorded set ever will.Sure the London/Beatles bit is a little off putting with this tube thing in his mouth, but that apart this is him giving us much of his best known material. The final half hour or so is a SW singalong that works superbly, his live version of Superstition is quite awesome. The sound throughout is brilliant.this is a quality product of what clearly was a fabulous gig.Stevie's first live DVD,and mine came with a 10 x 12" photo of the event as well.No extras, nothing other than the gig itself but at well over two hours theres nothing to complain about.Quite a bit of funk,a lot more of the romantic songs we know so well.Sure was worth the wait for this excellent release by a giant in the history of modern music. Will be one of the years best and most popular releases, well worth getting hold of.

I also attended one of the O2 concerts and remember being incredibly happy at the time because his voice sounded so good - if you ever see him singing on TV chat shows when he hasn't warmed up his voice, he often has to meander through the octave a bit before he finds the note!

But the voice was in great shape - the guy's 58 years old - and he hit every note. The call-response thing that some people complain about I think you just have to accept as being Stevie. He's not going to change the way he runs his shows. After all, his first number 1 in the US (Fingertips Pt.2), way back in 1963, is one *big* call-response jam.

Oh, and the "weird instrument" he used to make "some very annoying sounds"...? Any real fan of Stevie would be thrilled to see him use the Talkbox again after too long and the performance he does of "People Make The World Go Round" is one of the highlights of the DVD for me. Never heard him use it before? Why not start way back at "Love Having You Around" from his 1972 album "Music Of My Mind"?

Shame they didn't put "Golden Lady" on the DVD, because I know he sang it at some of the shows (including the one I went to), but mustn't grumble. Great set, great band, great show.

So Steve.... where's "Through The Eyes Of Wonder", then, hey?

An excellent dvd of one of the performances at the O2 Arena last year. I went and saw him live there and was left a little disappointed to be honest. However, I must say I enjoyed this excellent dvd (more so than the actual gig?!) - as you see more of Stevie and the band close-up, what they're playing etc - as apposed to a 'dot' on the horizon! He plays all the classics and for anybody that loves Stevie Wonder - its a most enjoyable watch.

Service and delivery were first class too.
