I also attended one of the O2 concerts and remember being incredibly happy at the time because his voice sounded so good - if you ever see him singing on TV chat shows when he hasn't warmed up his voice, he often has to meander through the octave a bit before he finds the note!
But the voice was in great shape - the guy's 58 years old - and he hit every note. The call-response thing that some people complain about I think you just have to accept as being Stevie. He's not going to change the way he runs his shows. After all, his first number 1 in the US (Fingertips Pt.2), way back in 1963, is one *big* call-response jam.
Oh, and the "weird instrument" he used to make "some very annoying sounds"...? Any real fan of Stevie would be thrilled to see him use the Talkbox again after too long and the performance he does of "People Make The World Go Round" is one of the highlights of the DVD for me. Never heard him use it before? Why not start way back at "Love Having You Around" from his 1972 album "Music Of My Mind"?
Shame they didn't put "Golden Lady" on the DVD, because I know he sang it at some of the shows (including the one I went to), but mustn't grumble. Great set, great band, great show.
So Steve.... where's "Through The Eyes Of Wonder", then, hey?
