Book Description

24 April 2009
Steve Backshall embarks on his most daring adventure yet. He has just six months to travel six continents and find 60 of the deadliest creatures on the planet for the 26-part Children's BBC series of the same name which will air on BBC1 and the CBBC Channel. From lethal beauties to killer beasts, from the unseen to the unexpected, the one thing these creatures have in common is that they are all deadly. Steve's global adventure spans the continents and his encounters range from famous killers such as the African Cheetah, the Neotropical Piranha and the North American Grizzly Bear to less famous but no less deadly animals. For example, few are aware that the Pufferfish is armed with tetrodoxin, an exceptionally lethal poison, estimated to be 1,200 times more deadly than cyanide. Learn about the ingenious techniques and extraordinary weapons that some of our most dangerous animals are armed with. Including the renowned killers, the unexpected and the downright bizarre, this companion book to Steve Backshall's high adrenaline tour of the world's most deadly is not to be missed, by adults and children alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars deadly60 30 Jun 2009
Format:Hardcover
This very reasonably-priced book is an excellent companion to the TV series, including some familiar "deadly" animals, as well as some less well-known ones.
The text is presented in two page spreads (one for each animal), in a lively and humerous style that will appeal to all ages.As well as the stunning photographs, there is plenty of good science, and a genuine sense of the wild. One disappointment was the omission of some of the "stars" of the TV series, but still a great present for animal lovers!

A Kid's Review
Format:Hardcover
I would recommend this book because it has 60 of some of the World's deadliest animals such as snakes, scorpions, sharks, bears and many other dangerous animals. When I first opened the book my eyes almost popped out their sockets! The book will tell you about animals from perigine falcons to the mighty polar bear. You may think that an elephant cannot hurt a human but if you think that you are wrong! There are mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians and inverterbrates. There are killers, endangered and protected animals. Its the best book ever.
