The year of 2000 saw the release of the Deckard’s debut album ‘Stereodreamscene’. The Scottish four-piece were the former members of the East West signed rock outfit ‘Baby Chaos’ in the mid ‘90s. Now under their new group name, they deliver this catchy pop-rock album that possesses a mature and intelligent approach to their music. The album incorporates a sprinkling of synthesized sounds and orchestral layers that bring a unique depth to this well produced CD.
The album works well as a whole, with each song fitting together nicely as a unit. The opener track “What Reason” is an absolute corker of a track. The track is followed by the slower, quieter, more atmospheric number “Remain This Way”. This track positioning is the only qualm I have with the track layout. Running at 5mins 39secs, the song is perhaps a little too long for a track of this nature to be put second on the album. It’s still a great song though.
For me track seven “Once There Was A Girl” is the absolute highlight of the album. Fast paced, chunky riffage, meaty vocals, funky-funky drums, and a towering chorus make the track a true winner. The song’s bridge screams haunting memories of past Baby Chaos tracks that will draw an instant smile on the face of any fan.
All in all, the album is a masterpiece of pop-rock. It is a definite must buy for any fans of Baby Chaos.
