Product Description

Product Description

Following Sepia Record's release of 'Stereo 35 MM / Far Away Places' by the conductor Enoch Light, here are both of the follow-up LPs on one CD. Light produced a long string of hit stereo percussion albums in the 1960s.

Stereo '35 MM Volume 2' was a Top Ten album in 1962 and is coupled with 'Far Away Places Volume 2'. Both are appearing on CD for the first time and have been digitally re-mastered in glorious stereo.

Recalling the introduction of stereophonic sound during the late Fifties/early Sixties, this combination of two 1963-released albums in the Command series were follow ups to their best selling 1961 forerunners of the same name which promoted the spacious and startling advantages of the new sound technology in comparison with the previous boxed-in monaural or monophonic reproduction. Home hi-fi units certainly brought forth the depth and width of such sound marvels and Enoch Light (1905-1978) and his Orchestra were amongst the top contenders in the production of such orchestral splendour.

Like its predecessor, the chart-busting (#8) STEREO 35 MM - VOLUME 2 was also recorded in the sacred environs of Carnegie Hall, New York, with the repertoire strictly confined to the great standards. However, their adventurous arrangements follow the innovative orchestral splendour of swirling strings and emphatic brass with imaginative intros heading the songs before they take wing. Quite simply, I would need to stick a pin in to pick favourites from the dozen tracks but if pushed would nominate I WANT TO BE HAPPY, OF THEE I SING and JUST ONE OF THOSE THINGS from this true demonstration of magnificent orchestrations.

FAR AWAY PLACES - VOLUME 2 incorporates a chorus, a vast collection of instruments and even more freewheeling arrangements to define its roam around the world beginning with the popular ISTANBUL and occasional hand claps branding THE ISLE OF CAPRI with true authenticity hitting the button for THE MOON OF MANAKOORA's Hawaiian flavour whilst bagpipes denote a medley of true Scottish favourites incorporated into WEE BIT OF HEATHER. There's much musical humour in the outcome and anyone who enjoyed the initial release will latch on to this entertaining collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sepia 1237 another volume... 21 Sep 2013
I must say I love the Enoch Light sound and Sepia have in recent times served us very well indeed. All of the original LPs have superb stereophonic sound. Here you have 2 more LPs Stereo 35MM and Far Away Places. If you enjoy "sounds" and themes these are 2 more albums you will wish to hear. Pricewise these are a real bargain backed up by attractive liners and informative notes. The sound transfers are excellent. A must have for lovers of orchestral albums. I never thought I would own these. More please Sepia...
