Product Description

Amazon.co.uk

When he split from his 1980s buddies Stock and Aitken, those who loved pop feared that there would never be another record to come from pop svengali Pete Waterman. Then, out of the blue, came Steps, a five piece who were shockingly group-by-numbers for their bland first single (the aptly titled "5,6,7,8"). Then, with "Last Thing On My Mind", an immense, Abba-like paean to heart-break, the group became whole--an immense camp beast, whose songs kept giving to everyone from Teletubby toddlers to ageing old queens. That the band are singing Waterman's trademark open-sore teen ditties helps ("One For Sorrow"--can you bear the pain?), but what completes the brilliant package is the routines. Each song has an aerobic-like succession of weird hand poses and body-twists that should, if you're being good, be learnt by rote from their videos. But what the hell--come on and do some bad vogueing to this great, bad-but-cool pop. --Charlie Porter

4.0 out of 5 stars Great album! 19 May 2000
Format:Audio CD
This is a great pop album, most of the songs on here are catchy and fun. My favourites are 'One for sorrow', 'Love u more', 'Back to you' and 'Better best forgotten'. There are a few love songs on here, but they're not as strong as the upbeat ones and can be a bit annoying. 'Heartbeat' is quite nice though. You won't find anything amazingly different, but it's fun and completely inoffensive, so it's great for kids. If you like this you should also try Aqua's new album, which is also good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Steptacular! 15 Jan 2000
By Maurine
Format:Audio CD
This is a fun album, with a bit of everything. Fun and fast to slow and sultry. My favorite is "5,6,7,8." My slow top picks are "Tragedy" and "One for Sorrow." All the songs are smashing though. They have great voices and sound fantastic together. I recommend this to anyone who likes fun music.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Treasure 10 Jan 2011
Format:Audio CD
You can say what you like about Steps and slag them off all you want, but there is no denying what a great record this is. This is one of the best debut albums ever and takes me right back to my childhood.
This album features their first hits "5,6,7,8" and "Last thing on my mind". It also features their first number one "Tragedy" and "Heartbeat" (released as a double a side).
I bought this on cassette more than 12 years ago and I recently just bought it on CD too, so i could hear it again. At the moment in a time of lifeless, dull pop music I find Steps so good to return to. Their songs are filled with melody, harmonies and you just can't help fall in love with them. When I heard the album again, I felt great nostalgia. The album tracks themselves are so good in my opinion, songs like "Back To You" are brimming with joy and are undeniably catchy.

So, whether your a male now in his 20's, or a teenager, don't be ashamed to stick on Steps. They are sure to bring a smile to your face!! :)
