Product Description

Product Description
Drawing on his experience as a hit-making songwriter and song writing instructor, Jason Blume presents an easy to understand, step-by-step approach to mastering those key elements consistently found in hit songs. Incorporating inspiring anecdotes, effective exercises, and common sense checklists for self-evaluation, 6 Steps to Songwriting Success provides a concise analysis of the six steps essential to song writing success - developing successful song structures, writing effective lyrics, composing memorable melodies, producing successful demos, taking care of business, and developing persistence. Exercises for practicing and honing these skills, advice from more than 50 industry professionals, and checklists to objectively assess one's strengths and weaknesses are included. This updated edition reflects industry changes such as the advent of MP3s, the increase in music sampling, and the fact that CDs have replaced cassettes as the industry standard for presenting material. 6 Steps to Songwriting Success contains everything songwriters need to know about the creative and business aspects of writing successful songs

First Sentence
I recently had an opportunity to consult with a writer who explained to me that after more than twenty years of dabbling in songwriting as a hobby, he had decided to invest his life savings, more than twenty thousand dollars, to record professional demos of ten of his songs. Read the first page

5.0 out of 5 stars All you need to know about songwriting, 28 Mar 2001
By A Customer
Realy good book. Describes the whole songwriting proces from making a hit to selling it. Contain instant tips, what to do to improve your "hit songs". Also contains exercises to test your skills. Whole book is very good written, with clear explanations and absorbing content so you do not need to push your self to reading it (Like with some other educational books).

5.0 out of 5 stars Keep it simple and singable!, 3 Feb 2005
This is a statement made in the book by Jason Blume regarding the melody of a given song!

It has been said that this book will deliver you to the devil of selling out! by try ing to be too commercial and mainstream, however I am currently reading this book and have to say that as a songwriter of only several months with my own band and making the recomended changes that have been "prescibed" in this book and can deffinatley here and feel a more catchy format.
Do these methods apply to rock music?
Yes!
Listen to every song that you love and make out the structure do you remeber the melody, does the chorus stand out!
These are general things that are not "pop" but that make the music of today in any Genre.
The writer Jason Blume is of a more "pop" background which you can seee by the refernces to the songs he has wrote in the book, but this allows you to see the types of songs that he has crafted and how they have worked in different settings.
this book is without a doubt the number one songwriting bokk out there, there are many books that claim to have all the information that you will require to make "Hit" songs, most I have bought from this site by doing exactly what you have done on the search believe when I say stpo wasting time and your money simply get this one first! I wish I had!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Song-Writing Ideas on every page, with understanding.., 15 Jul 2004
By HeartSinger "David WB" (Dublin, Ireland) - See all my reviews
Though I've only read 2 or 3 chapters due to time constraints, this book seems to have it all. What I've read was inspiring and supportive of my own song-writing abilities in a way that just seeps into your mind for future use...highly recommend it.
