I was expecting quite a lot from this book after it was recommended to me however this book was disappointing.
It did contain a great deal of information about Stephenie Meyer that I did not know and was a good read and recommended for that reason, however the writing style could best be described as lazy, repetitive and at times very patronising toward the subject of the book.
Much of what is contained in the book are copies of reviews of Stephenie Meyers various books, and extracts from the many interviews she has given (pages upon pages upon pages of reviews are reproduced in this book).
The authors attitude toward Stephenie, and in particular her religion and her parents, is disappointing and quite frankly, insulting. You get the impression he is somewhat impressed that she has done as well as she has given the - to him - obvious disadvantage of having grown up Mormon and with strict (i.e. caring) parents.
This is the part of the book that quickly grates, the constant references to her religious background and her 'apparently' overly controlling parents. When you actually read what Stephenie herself has to say about either, which isn't much, it is in fact very positive.
He seems to find her moral values prudish and old fashioned, and is at a loss to understand why the sexual restraint her characters display in her books could be found so appealing by todays youth.
As the first biography of Stephenie Meyer, this is well worth the read, however I do hope that a more balanced, objective biography will be written in the future.

I've read alot of biographies, and i picked this up thinking it would be the same but it surprised me. I loved the way that Chas went into detail about Stephenie's early life, not just detailing where or how she grew up but explaining her religion and her family ties. This book is well worth a read and will give you a unique insight into where the magic came from, whether you are a Twihard or not.
