I already owned the Last Chance to See DVD and book, and had loved the series, so I couldn't wait to buy this as well. For anyone who saw the Last Chance to See series, this DVD is a follow-up to the episode on the Northern White Rhino. Having been unable to find any Northern White Rhinos left in the wild, Mark Carwardine and Stephen Fry follow the relocation of four Northern White Rhinos (ie HALF of the world population!) from a zoo in the Czech Republic to their new home in Kenya.
Mark draws the short straw, and goes to the cold, snowy Czech Republic zoo to see the start of the rhinos' journey. Stephen gets to wait at the other end in sunny Kenya for Mark and the rhinos to arrive. I won't go into all the detail and spoil it, but for any critics of keeping animals in zoos, this just shows the importance of zoos in conserving animals - if it wasn't for zoos, the Northern White Rhino would be extinct today. As it is, its future is still uncertain with so few individuals alive, but it was heart warming to see the transformation in the four animals at the end.
