Product Description

In the previous series Last Chance To See Stephen Fry & Mark Carwardine went in search of the Northern White Rhino, but the animal was declared extinct before their planned encounter. Now Stephen and Mark embark on a new adventure to follow an attempt to take White Rhinos from captivity and return them to Kenya.

The film follows the fortunes of four rhinos, but can they survive such a long journey to such a contrasting country? And can zoo animals ever reacclimatize to the African bush? This is a dramatic, engaging and at times emotional story following the last hope for one of the biggest and most spectacular African animals.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant follow-up 5 Jun 2012

I already owned the Last Chance to See DVD and book, and had loved the series, so I couldn't wait to buy this as well. For anyone who saw the Last Chance to See series, this DVD is a follow-up to the episode on the Northern White Rhino. Having been unable to find any Northern White Rhinos left in the wild, Mark Carwardine and Stephen Fry follow the relocation of four Northern White Rhinos (ie HALF of the world population!) from a zoo in the Czech Republic to their new home in Kenya.

Mark draws the short straw, and goes to the cold, snowy Czech Republic zoo to see the start of the rhinos' journey. Stephen gets to wait at the other end in sunny Kenya for Mark and the rhinos to arrive. I won't go into all the detail and spoil it, but for any critics of keeping animals in zoos, this just shows the importance of zoos in conserving animals - if it wasn't for zoos, the Northern White Rhino would be extinct today. As it is, its future is still uncertain with so few individuals alive, but it was heart warming to see the transformation in the four animals at the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sobering thought about rare animals 24 Mar 2013

This is an excellent DVD, part documentary and part travel. I have always been interested in wildlife, rare animals, and I found this really interesting and thought provoking. it is another reminder of how man doesn't always care for animals until it is almost too late! Very informative, and a good chance to see the rhinos in their own environment, and how they have to be taken from their own environment through no fault of their own!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it! 6 Oct 2012

Title pretty much sums up my views. I really enjoyed watching this on tv and could not wait for the DVD to come out. I have also purchased the follow up DVD on white rhino, as I missed that completely on tele. Stephen Fry is hilarious and Mark is very patient as well as knowledgeable. Every second a pleasure and I cannot wait to share with my son as he gets a little older.
