I first saw Stephen K Amos on Live At The Apollo and I thought the guy was hilarious. After this I searched YouTube for more of his routines and was equally amused, so as soon as I saw this DVD on the shelf I bought it in a heartbeat. However, I am disappointed with this recording. Firstly, most of the routines are those he has done on TV before. Whilst this in theory isn't necessarily such a bad thing - I was pleased the "teeny tiny hot towel" and "Coon Cheese" routines were here - he doesn't seem to perform them with as much enthusiasm as usual. Also, too much of the show is spent talking to the audience. I appreciate that this is how Stephen likes to structure his performances, but the results are rarely that funny.
In a nutshell, his debut DVD release doesn't do him much justice. I still recommend you at least check this out if you are a newcomer, as you may be able to appreciate this show more than me. But if you come away underwhelmed, please don't dismiss him based purely on this DVD; I know he's better than this.
