Product Description

To call Jazz In Paris--Stephane Grappelli Qt, Vol.2 consummately professional is not to damn it with faint praise but to celebrate its unpretentious élan and timeless lyricism. The four protagonists, each an absolute master of his instrument, could have made a more than decent fist of this date even if their interest in it had been slight; however, their sheer delight is palpable. Grappelli has never sounded more relaxed or cogent--even on those historic Reinhardt sides--while Peterson is once again the perfect accompanist, both apposite and probing; unsurprisingly, he solos quite beautifully as well. The then-youthful Pedersen is resonant and pulsating and Clarke demonstrates anew that the greatest drummers combine incendiary power with subtle grace: only Blakey and Roach matched him in that respect and his brushwork here is alone worth the price of the CD. All six cuts abound in riches but if you want to sample, go for "Autumn Leaves"--a song that invariably brought out the best in both leaders--or the nine-minute "Blues For Musidisc", an exquisite mélange of earthy power and melodious invention. Above all, this is a jazz record for all seasons. --Richard Palmer

5.0 out of 5 stars 'Gitanes' label really smokes 11 April 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Grappelli, Peterson, Pederson, Clarke. Four guys having the most fun in Paris and passing it down to you and me. Just the best. Buy. Buy two.

(Now I have to write more words, and repetitions don't count. So I'll explain that I wrote 300 words profoundly exploring the nature of jazz and fumblefingers lost the text, had to start again. Take it from me, these two CDs are worth every damn penny, and I even have Eric Dolphy in my CD rack... Who needs 20 words?)

5.0 out of 5 stars Get it 31 July 2007

Now little can be said, if you like both Peterson and Grappelli you will just love this. Gitanes Jazz Productions have come up here with yet another winner. Your feet will start to tap right from the very first note. Don't be a fool and be the only jazz lover without this CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good relaxed jazz 27 Nov 2013
By L Reece
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I've always enjoyed the music of these two stellar performers and here they mesh easily and happily to produce some relaxed and swinging jazz. Just a pleasure to listen to. I also own volume one which I would give a 5 star review, the difference being simply my personal preference for the choice of tunes on volume one
