Had a very simlar experience to the person above/below. Plugged it in to charge my laptop from a North American socket. It charged for 15 minutes, then suddenly stopped. When I touched the adaptor, it was red-hot, to the point of melting. Never worked again after that.

Plugged it in, plugged in appliance, 'on' light came on for a split second and then the whole thing died. Very disappointing.

I bought this to use with my hairdryer but it short circuited it on first use. If you need it for converting an item that does not need a lot of electricity I would imagine that it is good as it is a good size. However if you need it for a hairdryer or anything similar I would steer clear of it.
