Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
Produced by Machine (White Zombie, Coal Chamber), you'd expect the Step Kings' debut LP to be expertly timed, crazily energetic and immensely heavy. However, it's also deeply contemporary. Driven by staccato riffs and a bludgeoning percussion, it delivers a succession of sharp effects learned from industrial and rap, yet holds fast to a strong sense of melody. Welcome to Rock Y2K.

A mightily proficient 3-piece, the Step Kings hail from the streets of New York and proudly sport logoed gang-like uniforms. Their message is one of personal freedom--like close neighbour Springsteen they urge their listeners to escape their urban cage--and they stand aggressively against the authoritarianism of government and peer groups. There's furthermore a very real sense of frustration that, in the track "Eleven", seems to lead to sexual violence. Overall, Let's Get It On! is a largely caustic affair. For a glimpse at its soft side, skip to the thirteenth minute of the final track when a long period of silence is broken by the band and their buddies indulging in drunken and hilarious self-glorification. --Dominic Wills

4.0 out of 5 stars Hyper Nu-Metal, 27 Mar 2001
The Step Kings are a widely unknown band yet "Lets Get it on" Proves that they are an extremely talented band. I brought the album not knowing what to expect since I had only heard one of the tracks, but after listening to it I was pleased with my purchase. The album can only be described as fast paced, almost hyper metal. "Vibe", the first track jumps at you and the pace rarely stops throughout the album with songs such as "Independance Day", and a cover version of "Another Brick in the Road". Despite this my faviorite song is "Move On" which is a slower paced track. The album is worth buying especially if you like bands such as Queens of the Stone Age and Linkin Park, yet the bands are very different. The album is original, if not completely well rounded, but hey for a debut album who's complaining

4.0 out of 5 stars They get it on... and no mistake!, 22 Jul 2000
By A Customer
Step Kings were an unknown quantity when the CD landed in my stereo... I expected a burst of this 'nu-metal' rubbish I have been avoiding for so long. But then, 'Unity' hit me. After picking myself up off the floor, I actually heard what a fine collection of songs 'Let's Get it On!' is.

There are many tempos and varied guitar lines throughout the album, making the listen not one of repetative distortion or hip-hop drums. the album is VARIED, which is why it is such a joy to behold...

This album is a cracker, though some may need a little time for it to grow on them. Think Biohazard, For Love Not Lisa and Helmet thrown in a vice and the context of the album should emerge about right! having said that, Step Kings may be good, but Helmet & the 'hazard still do it better!
