Belle and Sebastian made it again! Another great EP - Ok, you've got "step into my office" which is straight from the Dear Catastrophe Waitress album.
Step into my office is my favorite track from the album, musically it's brilliant, beautifully constructed and it will make you grin; it would make a fantastic song for a musical.
Then, Love on the March sounds like Bossa Nova in Glasgow, where "our religious holidays starts simply because we've no sun". It's a very good song - the Vocal trio ( Stevie-Sarah; I think...) works very well. Anyway B&S doing Bossa Nova is priceless!
Last and my favorite from this EP is "desparation made a fool of me", great tune whose title speaks for itself. It's definitely one of my all-time favorite BS songs; Funnily, most of my favorite BS are from their EPs - Photo Jenny, String Bean Jean, a Century of Fakers, The loneliness of the middle distance runner...
And you've got the video of Step into my office! Definitely worth the price...

What is making people mean? A bad scene 26 Jan 2004
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com

If you're a B&S fan, you already own Dear Catastrophe Waitress, and you're buying this for two songs. If you are not, start with If You're Feeling Sinister.

That said, I like "Step Into My Office, Baby," and all of DCW. It's a different sound, but not unrecognizably different, and I had worried that the band would stagnate with Isobel's departure. Instead Stuart seems back in the swing of things, writing as well as ever, and the band sounds great. Some may say overproduced -- but I think one shouldn't complain about excellent orchestration and intonation.

But, you are likely wondering about the new tracks. "Love on the March" took a couple of listens, but I like it a lot. It's a lighthearted, cheerful song, which Sarah's singing adds much to. "Desperation Made a Fool of Me" is an excellent Stuart opus, in the classic mold although with new-style B&S touches. (The other reviewer's comparison to "Marx & Engels" is not bad.)

Ultimately, you have to decide whether to pay for just 2 new songs, but I think they are worth the price. (Then, I own every B&S album to date except Storytelling.)

Yo, I dig, but I mean.... 15 Dec 2003

First of all, Step Into My Office, Baby is one of my least favorite songs by Belle and Sebastian, ever. The B-sides to this single are much better than the title track. There's a new one by Stevie (I think it's by him. It's certainly not Stuart) that is very neato. Stevie's come a long way since "Chick Factor." The song is "Love On the March." It has a very weird electro-latin sound, and the singing is very produced and blended, the way it is on "Step Into My Office." Good song. The third track is "Desperation Made a Fool of Me." A Stuart song. It doesn't have much lyrical content, but the lyrics that are there are up to par Stuart Murdoch lyrics. It's similar in texture and feel to "Marx and Engels" from the I'm Waking Up to Us ep. It's a very very nice song. The production is wonderful on both tracks. I'd reccomend this EP, but I wish it had another new one instead of Step Into My Office.

if you're looking for punk rock, look elsewhere 4 Sep 2005

i really like this ep. all of the songs are great. i'm not a huge fan of belle and sebastian, and i really only like them in ep form. but the title song is really fun (which was shocking for me to hear at the time), and 'love on the march' is a great little bossa nova song (those scots know how to do bossa nova). pick up the ep! it's only a few bucks (at least it was at borders), and it's a great listen.
