I bought the 6 cup version of this Stellar Art Deco stove-top espresso maker after my aluminium espresso maker 'gave up' I have now been using it daily for about 6 weeks - just fantastic. It makes really good coffee without the nagging doubts about the effects of added aluminium in my diet! The 6 Cup makes 320 ml of coffee.

The first thing I noticed after admiring its looks is that it is quite heavy and feels solid and really well engineered - I don't have to screw it up nearly as tight as the aluminium one to get a seal - which means at the end, it does not require a huge effort to unscrew it! I imagine that this means that the silicone washer is going to last much longer too.

The basket into which you put the coffee is also made from stainless steel, and when I bang out the used coffee grounds I have no worry about denting it or knocking it out of shape. All of the components are stainless steel, so I'm not going to have problems with the perforated disc being deformed by the pressures inside the espresso maker (this is what finished off my aluminium maker - I got bored with constantly replacing this item)

It pours well (without any overflow from under the lid) and is stable and heavy.

The handle however does get a bit too hot to hold, so you'll need to use a tea-towel to lift it off the heat. The thick stainless steel base retains the heat, so I have found it best to turn off the gas as soon as I start to hear it hiss.

Being stainless steel, it is dishwasher safe - but I simply rinse it out as it is best to 'season' espresso makers. The polished exterior has remained bright and has not discoloured as a result of the gas flames from my stove.

I can see that it is going to run and run.

This is a fantastic buy, I couldn't be more delighted.
I have tried so many coffee makers, the last being the Dualit coffee machine which cost about £140. Even though the Dualit machine looks nice, it blocks up frequently however meticulously I clean it and my heart sinks each morning as I face the prospect of another battle with it.
I have never owned an espresso maker before, but bought the six cup version of this Stellar one. Not only is it so stylish and beautiful, it is so wonderfully easy to use, I couldn't believe it. I filled it with water and Lavazza rossa ground coffee, and put it on my induction hob. Within a couple of minutes, steam poured out of the top in a very cheerful and satisfying way. I waited with bated breath to see if it would be obvious when it had finished, which it was; it just stopped steaming and gurgling. I lifted the lid - there was lovely hot coffee filling the jug bit on top - magic! The coffee was delicious, no boiled taste, it was smooth, strong (I put 2 heaped teaspoons of coffee grounds in), and really hot. I used the now redundant Dualit macine for frothing the milk and enjoyed a huge mug of steaming hot, really fresh tasting delicious coffee. I only wish I had bought the 10 cup as I could now be drinking a second mug!

Having only previously used the typical aluminum 'Italian' coffee-makers this Stellar Art Deco 10-cup is a real treat and makes tasty coffee. Good-looking with it's stainless steel shiny-ness and the weight of it feels luxurious. I would advise the 10 cup as in reality it only makes about 2 full cups of coffee if you're not serving tiny espresso portions.

I have had a number of espresso machines and this is the best by far. Entirely made of stainless steel except for the rubber washer. It pours beautifully. The handle is an integral part and not spot welded or screwed on so will not work loose or break off. It does not spill hot coffee over your hand when full and is stable on the stove. Recommended

Either you take note of scientific research, and heed advice not to drink coffee from an aluminium moka pot, or you don't. Many folks continue to drink from lead crystal glassware because they're simply not bothered by warnings from the scientific community, or because they don't know any different, or simply don't care. We do care, very much and seek to protect our guests as well as ourselves from avoidable health risks. I wouldn't have an aluminium moka pot in the house, not would I drink from lead crystal, but that's a personal choice. If you feel differently I respect that you have made your choice and that it is different to mine. Having made my choice, and having decided to pay extra for stainless steel, I am delighted with the product. It arrived perfectly packaged and even came supplied with a spare gasket in the box, and a stainless steel tamper as well, with which to finely adjust strength. Stellar are an excellent company and we look forward to many years of service from this machine, for times when a large nespresso simply doesn't quite 'hit the spot', or for when we're entertaining several guests. At such happy times, one pour serves all, after dinner.

This Stellar Art Deco 10 Cup Espresso maker looks great and keeps it's good looks, especially after dishwasher cleaning.
Normally fill base water container 1 cm below the steam vent and fill the coffee filter just above the centre line - about 4 desert spoons of fine milled espresso/mocha coffee. This makes 2 generous mugs of coffee after 11 minutes on medium/high gas hob small burner.
Illy Mocha coffee tastes the best but it's still not quite as good as the same coffee we brewed in a similar (though not as good looking) espesso maker in Italy. Maybe the electric hob on full power was better than a gas hob? We knew it was finished as steam suddenly shot out the steam vent!
The Stellar, however, begins gurgling after 7-8 minutes as the hot water is forced through the coffee filter into the jug above and never shoots steam from the vent.
Maybe the pressure produced within the base container is less than the one we tried on holiday and therefore doesn't extract the coffee with quite the same intensity - so less intense flavour is produced? That's why we've given it 4 out of 5 stars.
Worth the money as it's beautifully produced and should last many years. Enjoy!
