Product Description

The celebrity inhabitants of Stella Street are back (all ably portrayed by Phil Cornwell and John Sessions), and there are some new faces on the block. While Michael Caine frets over his kidney-shaped swimming pool and Jack Nicholson 'birds it up', Marlon Brando, Alan Rickman and the Beatles have a few adjustment problems upon moving into 'the street'.

Synopsis

In an effort to escape the pressures of stardom, some of the world's most famous celebrities move to The Good Life country, Surbiton, to a nondescript Stella Street. Michael Caine, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and Dustin Hoffman all live down this road, along with other celebrities, oh and some ordinary working class people as well. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards own, and work in, the corner shop. Everyone gets along, after a fashion, until a financial advisor persuades everyone to hand over control of their finances to him. When this goes horribly wrong, the stars decide their old lifestyle wasn't so bad after all!

5.0 out of 5 stars More classic impressions 4 Aug 2007
By S. Day VINE VOICE
Format:DVD
Hot on the heels of series 1's DVD release comes series 2. Compared to the first series, the episodes went from 10 minutes to 15, and more substantial plots were introduced, but this series manages to retain almost all the freewheeling energy of its forerunner. It's clear that the budget was expanded too. Dirk Bogarde moves out and we're introduced to Pam and Gray Slurrey from Dorking (two repellant suburbanites who inform Mrs Huggett her services are no longer required) and Jack Flatley (washed up entertainer charged a nominal rent of 80 per week to stay with Michael Caine). John Hurt's character is developed, Al Pacino ages and the Stones carry on more or less as usual, but haunted by the Beatles. Also, Alan Rickman turns up at the end to demolish the street... This is another classic series that is presented here on vanilla DVD. Series 2 was later re-edited to 15 ten minute episodes, and there were one or two slight additions (such as Al Pacino's prenuptial agreement). These don't appear to be included, sadly. Any fan of impressions will want to own this fun series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Some of the best British Comedy 5 Aug 2010
Format:DVD
This series was transmitted on BBC2 but on quite a late slot close to midnight. Not surprised that not many people know of this wonderful British comedy. A friend made me aware of it and I managed to watch most of the episodes. I am absolutely thrilled that the whole series and the movie are released on DVD. Needless to say I have ordered all of them.

It is an unmissable comedy. Absolutely hilarious and quite spot on in depicting the characters. My favourites are Michael Caine and Joe Pesci. But all the other characters are wonderful too, particularly Mrs Huggett and the gardener. I am looking forward to many winter nights when the humour and laughter of this wonderful comedy will warm up those depressing and cold winter nights.

Highly recommended viewing and an absolute classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not a lot of people know about this programme! 8 Jun 2010

Do you know I always used to miss Stella Street when it was shown on tv, only managing to catch the odd episode. I said I always used to miss Stella Street when it was shown on tv!
It's inspired. Phil Cornwell and John Sessions are fantastic. Favourites are Michael Caine, Joe Pesci (if you like Joe Pesci in Goodfellas you will crease up laughing watching this) and David Bowie. Oh and of course Mick and Keith's corner shop.
I was in tears of laughter watching this dvd.
