Stella Adler's "The Art of Acting" is a mustfor anyone involved in Acting, OR for that matter any other creative
profession for Stella Adler insists that one must "Learn to please yourself, but Dont Be easily pleased"
I am only part way through this book...three or four chapters in, but it is FANTASTIC! She dispels many notions and
pre-conceptions held about the method and talks largely about the use of ones imagination in order to play roles
such as Macbeth and Hamlet which exist beyond our sphere of understanding. She offers lots of advice but at the same time
insists we go out and find out for ourselves. Its written almost as if Adler were talking directly to us. She does not believe
in fancy language and gets right to the point with everything she says. She also tells us we should choose what we READ very wisely
we should not just read a book that has fallen off a book shelf into our laps we should seek out Good, Strong Rigorous material.
This is probably as wise a read for a creative person that you could get whether you want to become an Actor an Artist or a Designer.
