Biography

It was the country music equivalent of a sonic boom – a sound so bold, so different and so powerful it sent shock waves throughout country radio and up the charts. That sound was “Brand New Man,” the chart-topping debut single that heralded the high-octane arrival of Brooks & Dunn in 1991. Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn came out with musical guns blazing and in the years ... Read more in Amazon's Brooks & Dunn Store

This latest offering from country musics number one duo surpasses all previous offerings.Usually on any album you will find a weak track or two, Steers and Stripes has no weak track at all. The album kicks off with a wonderful bouncy track about life in America, that whets your appetite for the rest of the cd. Track 3 is 'The long Goodbye' written by Ronan Keating, somewhat suprisingly, and is a real tearjerker of a ballad really showcasing Ronnie Dunns tremendous vocal talent. I could go right through the listing and wax lyrical about each and every one of the 14 fantastic tracks, but instead will sum up with this, OUTSTANDING! If you only buy one country album this summer, make sure it is this one. Oh and 'Every River'......'Unloved'....'Lucky me, Lonely You'...........................

After the comparative failure of the singles from Tight rope, their previous album, country music followers were wondering if Brooks and Dunn were yesterday's hit-makers, ready to be consigned to the history books and the oldies radio stations. With four major hits from this album, the answer was an emphatic NO.
Only in America (a brilliant rocking country song), Long goodbye (a fine ballad co-written by the Irish singer, Ronan Keating), My heart is lost to you (another fine ballad) and Ain't nothing 'bout you (a great mid-tempo song) were the singles that restored them to the upper reaches of the country charts where they had spent much of the nineties. All of those tracks can be found on their second volume of greatest hits but even if you've got that, there are ten other songs worth listening to on this album.
Of the other ten songs, my favorites are The last thing I do (a great rocking song that David Lee Murphy co-wrote), Good girls go to heaven (a mid-tempo rocker), When she's gone she's gone, Lucky me lonely you (two excellent ballads) and See Jane dance (a great rocking song with which to close the album).
This is yet another great album from country music's most successful duo of all time. I'm particularly pleased that it was a success for them after their previous failure.

I decided to buy this CD after seeing B&D perform "Only in America" on TV at the 2001 CMA Awards.
I have been a New Country music fan for 9 years, and this is the first CD of theirs that I have bought. It is superb - not a weak track on it.

There's so much to like about this CD (and very little to dislike!) and possibly their strongest collection of new (at the time of release) songs.
The opening trio of "Only In America", "The Last Thing I Do" and "The Long Goodbye" is just so strong, it's impossible not to be hooked! And then the winners just keep coming - "My Heart Is Lost To You", "When She's Gone, She's Gone" "Ain't Nothing 'Bout You". And so many styles - the honkytonk of "Lucky Me, Lonely You", the Latin stylings of "My Heart is Lost to You" and the humourous "Deny Deny Deny", and it all ends with the superb Rolling Stones/ZZ Top hybrid of "See Jane Dance".

Easily Brooks & Dunn's best album, and one of my favourite (and most played) country CDs!
