5.0 out of 5 stars Just Like The Real Thing 11 Sep 2011
Extremely pleased with this telephone. Looks like the original only a little lighter and slightly smaller. Bell ringer sounds like the old ones did. Dialling on it is easy once you get used to it. Sound is clear. Ringer volume and pitch is just right. Curly cord is a good length. Does have a slot in the back for carrying it around if you want to. Looks stylish too. Only glitch is that the receiver rocks loosely in the cradle - but its not a real problem, maybe the old ones did that. We are so pleased with this product that we are going to buy the cream one for our bedroom. An excellent telephone if you like retro.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blast from the past 3 Nov 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase
After much agonising over the pros and cons of rotary and push button dialling I bought this black rotary dialling model. It is just like the ones I remember way back in the 70s. It has a super mechanical bell ring and is generally a good heavy substantial phone with a nice glossy black finish. I am thoroughly delighted with it and recommend it to anyone who likes a blast from the past.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works flawlessly, looks retro 17 April 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
If you like the clear ringing bell and robust, solid look and feel of an old-fashioned Bakelite phone but still want to be able to navigate automated menus when calling the bank or the gas board, this phone is perfect. After chatting away like a Mad Men character you can replace the receiver with a satisfying clunk - not the kind of namby-pamby effort you get with modern cordless phones, where you delicately balance it in the cradle and then check that the little LED has come on to tell you that the handset is recharging. Use the rotary dialler to select numbers on menus without being cut off if you have to, but this phone is built for calling police commissioners in smoky offices and flirting with your secretary in a throaty whisper. This is a man's phone.

The only good thing about this phone was the look, once it was in use it wasnt working properly and very crackly, i thought it was my connection and got a bt engineer out, they confirmed it was the phone so i advised company of this and had to pay more in postage approx £8 and when it was received manager said that it came back broken and in poor condition??????? it was carefully wrapped and secure better then it was sent, anyway out come was manager wouldnt refund me or cover my asdditional costs and i would NEVER RECOMMEND THIS SELLER BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Christmas Present 17 Jan 2012
By CZP
Given to me as a Christmas present as I have always wanted one. i looked at reviews online and wasnt sure that this would be ok as some of the reviews are a little negative, BUT, I was totally pleased with this, its well made, not at all flimsy, its very sturdy, the ringing is great, maybe a little quiet, but maybe I am not quite used to the sound yet! I love this phone, though if you need to call anything thats a "press 1 or this or 2 for that" then you do need to use another phone, not a problem for me as I kept my previous phone and get it out of the cupboard and use it. Its a great product and reminds me of my childhood, my kids, not so keen, but then at first they couldnt work out how to use it!! i can highly recommend this product and would definitely purchase it again

5.0 out of 5 stars The right bits of old and new in a single piece 26 April 2012

The phone looks and feels convincingly 70ish. It, however, packs quite a few modern features under the hood (all cleverly disguised in the retro look):

- the rotary dial will tone dial (good if you use it on a VoIP adapter that only supports tone dialling, switching to pulse dialling not possible so useless on an ancient phone line)
- it has * and # past the zero (that makes it a bit less retro but it's rather useful)
- speakerphone (mostly useful when dialling as the sound quality isn't that good)
- redial

The phone has a true mechanical bell ringer and it isn't quiet as some other reviewers said. If it's too quiet and you're using the phone with a VoIP adapter it might have to do with the ring voltage/frequency. I melt every time it rings. The rotary dial doesn't feel exactly like a proper pulse dialling one as it turns back somewhat faster and makes a less clickety noise than a "real" one. The audio quality is excellent both ways. The receiver and the phone feel heavy and solid. A minor drawback is that the receiver sits a bit loosely in the cradle but that doesn't make the experience any less pleasant.

Overall I love my new phone and I recommend it to anyone looking for that retro feel and look.

same review as for the cream phone. I have the black phone on my antique desk and it certainly looks the part so much more than modern phones.

This item is inexpensive but you really get what you pay for as it looks cheap, the detail around the dial looks loose and of poor quality. Read more

This is a great phone for the price. Minor point of caution is that the lead that plugs into your wall is slightly flimsier than normal phone cords. Read more
