This headset is both superb in quality and sexy in aesthetics. There's a reason many professional gamers use this headset as their default choice. The volume and mute button on the cord is always welcomed and something I didn't have on my previous headset.

My only concern, though small, is the pressure it puts on my glasses, which after long periods, causes the frames to make sore dents on the side of my head. Because of this, I have to use contacts when using this headset. Again, small sacrifice in comparison to how great this headset is, but something to think about for those who use glasses, especially with frames that have inner curves at the end.

Overall, the sound quality is amazing with it's built in 7.1 surround sound card and the padding on the ears combined with the no pressure, stretch grip on the top provides a harmonious fit when it comes to long hours of PC gaming and the like.

First of all I would like to thank SteelSeries for sending me their headset for review. I reviewed the headset when they initially got launched at their higher price tag of around £100.

I was a little sceptical at first with the headset, as I was concerned about the overall sound quality the headset would have produced. However, the Heat Orange Gaming Headset really did impress me.

Build quality

The build quality of the headset is extremely good - so much so that it was hard to find any faults with it. The only thing that really came to my mind whilst I was using it, was the positioning of the mute/volume control, which is located on the wire. The reason I mention this, is because the little control pod wasn't nearer the headset, but instead half-way between the wire. This meant that the control pod had to be placed just by the keyboard, which made it a little awkward to type at times. It can be easily overcome, by placing the wire underneath your keyboard, however I know some keyboards don't have wire management under the keyboard, thus meaning it might be uncomfortable for the gamer to play games or listen to music, whilst using the headset.
On the subject of the control pod, I really did love the controls you had on it. Simple, yet effective.

I bought this for use on both PC and PS4 use. (USB)

Wear wise it's quite nice, fits ok, looks good. It was a little tight for the first day but after 3 days is starting to feel normal and comfortable no worries on this front at all.

On the PC works perfectly, even without the steelseries driver & engine. The options are minimal with an EQ and 3 settings with controls for the illuminated LED's. Sound is ok, treble is a little, Bass a little high off but can be adjusted in the engine.

The problems start when using with the PS4. You can plug it in and in the device options it will recognize it as V2 frost blue illuminated. When being used for the PS4 and because it cant use the drivers on this format it doesn't work the way it should. when you have the physical volume dial on the cord turned anything over 70% ish you get a horrible audible hiss that will not go away no matter what you do combined with being able to hear yourself very loudly through it also. the only thing you can do is turn it down until it stops but then that makes everything you are trying to listen to (game sounds, speech, music and especially party chat) really damn hard to hear. if you turn it back up you hear your self amplified as the mic is stuck on and that stupid hiss which is really quite annoying. Ive tried every combination of setting to no avail.

Also the main cable with the big dongle on is very short and annoying. If planning to use with more than one machine, do yourself a favour and get another USB extension cord so you don't have to plug straight into your machine, it wont fit in the front ports of PS4 due to being located in the slit, and even on the PC using without the cord will probably put wire strain on the connection as its short and has a dongle.

Looks, fits and feels great, they press on the ears a little but they were quite easy to break in, and felt fine after a few weeks. The problem I had was a the weak USB, which felt really unstable when I first bought it, and eventually I had to get the USB replaced because they actually stopped working. A decent headset, but I gave it 3 stars because I feel the product is massively overpriced, and there are much better products out there.

I rely on computer communications for both job and leisure activities. I use this headset for over 5 hours each day and can safely say that it is quality!

I would recommend it to everyone and it is well worth the price!

Thanks SteelSeries!
