The SteelSeries Ikari Laser mouse features programmable macros for RTS and MMO gamers and a high precision sensor suitable for FPS gamers. Okay I was hesitant to buy such an expensive mouse, and I payed more for this when less people had heard of it. Also I wouldn't say I'm a pro player but I like my kit.

Okay this is the only mouse on the market that you can set the precise DPI with. Many other mice you can set between presets like 800 and 1200, which is useless because it will mean you'll end up leaving it on one setting and tweaking the in game options instead.

With this mouse though you can set the precise DPI, down to 1. So you want it a little quicker but not too much, up the sensitivity by mabey 100 or so. Okay this reduces interpolation in game, which would be where say you have the mouse set to 800DPI and you mouse one pixel for the mouse, but this mouse 1.6 increments in game. Okay this may or may not make a difference for a player of my level. I notice that despite PC's apparently having no autoaim in game, this is not really the case as anyone who wastes enough time in COD will notice.

The huge benefit you do definatly get however is consistency, now all my games are left at neutral sensitivity settings, I instead tweak it on the mouse and all my games are now EXACTLY the same. It is priceless.

Okay bad points, as I'm not actually a salesperson, though I do want this company to do well :)

There is a sensitiviy switch on the top, this is pointless because imo there is no point adjusting sensitivity in game. Hell that might be usefull on a joypad but this is a mouse and like any laser mouse it is so precise that you should be able to both snipe and turn 180 degrees instantly without any bother. That button would have be much better being assignable. I'd rather the switch button on the underside.

Next up the macro software seems a little basic, but to be honest I don't use macro's, I don't know anyone who does. If you really want to you might be better off using keyboard macros anyway rather than wasting precious mouse buttons. It's worth noting however that although basic, the macros run in the mouse, not on 3rd party software. You don't need any special drivers! That would be pretty cool if I gave a rat's arse about macros.

The wheel feels old-school, it's solid and non-fancy like the intellimouse (which is still regarded as the best mouse of all time by most pro CS players). As a finishing touch also the wire is covered in a tough chord which stops it getting cut up by my desk.

Well summing up what can I say, this is the only mouse that beats the original MS mouse. It's killer feature being the DPI settings. Take it anywhere, to any PC and your DPI settings are perfect right away. It's refreshing to have a proper gaming mouse, one that doesn't glow silly colours or have interchangeable weights and looks like a space ship. For the record also this mouse it light, and that is how you want your mouse, you don't want to weight it down that is absolute rubbish.

What can I say, buy it now, this and their awesome giant mouse mat. I'm not sold yet on their keyboard as I think the Logitech Access keyboard is the ultimate gaming keyboard still personally. I've never needed to hold down more than 4 keys at once during an intense COD session, RTS gamers however may disagree.

So sorry to come over so enthusiastic but I think this mouse deserves a good review :)
