I can't agree with the previous reviewer when he says his S key has worn down after two weeks. I bought the 6G v2 for work, to replace the cheap cr** the company gave us. I'm a sub editor on a national newspaper, so I pound the keys for eight hours of the day. I wouldn't even be able to guess how many, but probably several thousand keystrokes a day. I'm also a power user in that I use a lot of keyboard short cuts and the mouse as little as possible. It's quicker that way. Yes, some of the keys are getting a bit shiny but no ways are they even close to being worn out after eight months. One small complaint with the keyboard is that some keys I use a lot (delete and down arrow) actually started bouncing out - really bouncing out. I have read of other users with a similar complaint. I fixed that with a tiny little bit of Pres-stick putty but it's a small problem. Other than that, it's very strongly built, heavy (good), yet quite compact (maybe the keys are just a little bit too close together, but I've got big hands).
However, that's minor compared to the sheer joy and pleasure of working on a proper mechanical keyboard on which there can be no more pleasurable typing experience. I had one of the legendary IMB Model M keyboards some years ago before it gave up the ghost and this (for me) one brings back the precision, the feeling of dexterity, the competence, the precision and the speed that are compromised by lesser quality. I'm writing this on my home keyboard - a Logitech MX 5000 - and it truly sucks in comparison because I am so much slower and inaccurate. I can never go back to anything less than a mechanical keyboard, no matter the cost, which if you think about it is minimal - say 10% of the PC itself and the keyboard will last ten years or more.
There are a number of other equally good mechanical keyboards on the market - Das Keyboard and Filco come immediately to mind but they're more expensive. I chose the 6G v2 partly because I could get it from an online retailer in this country, but more because of the layout of the keys, the size of the return key and its proximity to the backspace - with no key in between. Mechanics are one thing but ergonomics are another. The layout is great. I don't regret the purchase one little bit. I haven't tried it for gaming yet but I will get one, or its like, for home use.

so the keyboard itself works great, very nice mechanical switches but the letters are fading after a few days of gaming which is horrible considering that this is one of the really high end keyboards worth about a hundred pounds!I have ordered a permanent white marker for this but seriously steelseries sort ya keys out.(overall great keyboard but i would recommend buying the 7g as it has printed keys.

I took a big risk buying this Steel series keyboard, i'd never seen one, had little idea about the sensitivity of the switches (Cherry Blacks), and it's far from cheap. But i gotta say i love it.

To start with this thing is heavy duty gear, with surprising weight (due to the fact its built around a metal frame and ALL THOSE SWITCHES) and really positive connections i wouldn't be surprised if i were to be typing on this thing for 10 good years. It's a low frills affair but you can see that already from the pictures. I like to think of Steel Series as the antidote to the Gucci bells and whistles of companies like Razer and they have really blown me away. I'v had various people ask me why i spent so much on a keyboard, but then they sit down to type on it, and it silences all their questions:D If that's not a recommendation i don't know what is. It's just so satisfying! I suppose this is true of all Mechanical Keyboards but none the less is very much true of the G6 v2. I didn't think i'd use the inbuilt Multimedia keys but already i just use them instinctively. Replacing the left Windows key was also a master stroke for gamers.

This isn't to say that it is without fault, as previous commenters have said the lettering isn't perfect. I'v been using this baby for 2 months now and there is noticeable fading on my WASD keys. I don't think there going to disappear any time soon but it is a little disappointing. Also the well built keys are quite angular, this is only a problem for the space bar which can make my poor thumbs sore after typing for an extended period. The Cherry Black switches that the 6G v2 uses can be a little over sensative, this is at first a little annoying but tbh it has genuinely led me to become a more precise typer. These are minor gripes however and even with them i gotta give it 5 Stars. h
Thank you Steel Series for creating a fantastic, satisfying and Hard wearing product
