Really, not very good. Hard to generate any kind of empathy or sympathy with the characters, to the point that you just wish the killer would quickly despatch them all, get it over and done with so you can go do something much less irritating than watching this film. Talking of the killer; what a walking cliché of the genre. Mask wearing, mute and never in much of a hurry to get anywhere. Also, performs the old 'appear and disappear as if by magic' trick beloved of stalker films.

The script is weak at best and mainly consists of the characters sniping at each other with feeble, childish put-downs. This only adds to the irritation you feel for them. I'm not sure what they spent the props budget on, but it wasn't on props. Check out an iPod (thinly) disguised as some kind of tracking device! OK, so maybe you're not that concerned with quality props, great character development and a fizzy script and you just want a bit of mindless slasher thrill...well, don't look here. It's like something from a made for TV movie. Yes, sometimes less is more, but here, less is most definitely less. Check out 'Eden Lake' for some uncomfortable slasher moments, or 'Mum & Dad' for some really gruesome kicks. 'Steel Trap' may have had a limited budget, but 'Mum & Dad' was made for peanuts and totally eclipses it in every way.

There is, of course, a twist in the tail of 'Steel Trap'. I say 'of course', because you're already looking for it after a matter of minutes, once you realise the tired style, weak direction and general lacklustre nature of the film.

Also included is a 'making of' extra feature and it's as amateurish as the main feature, though some interviews were unintentionally funny and when you see the quality of the crew, you know why 'Steel Trap' is the way it is.

1.0 out of 5 stars Literally the worst film I've ever seen 10 Dec 2009
Format:DVD
I can accept a lot in the name of horror - poor characterisation, flimsy plots, dodgy effects, bad acting, you name it; but this film outdoes iself in re-defining everything I dislike about horror. It is now my new benchmark for 'truly awful'. It's not like it even has any of the normal excuses - it seems to have a reasonable budget and looks fairly sharp, so really its' failings stem from the incompetence with which everything is done. The plot is: cool party full of hateful people (honestly, it's the way they are scripted) in a skyscraper. Out of these people, the six or so most hateful are sent texts to go to a cooler, secret party on one of the other floors. They do, only to discover that they are now trapped and being picked off one by one. Doesn't sound too bad frankly, but it is the execution that lets it down. The main characters are all the type of hateful, malicious and nasty sorts that occassionally get written for films, but that you'd never encounter in real life. They all seem to dislike one another instantly and so become even more unpleasant to one another as the film goes on. I love horror films, and appreciate that getting you to dislike a character is a good way to get you to look forward to their death. Normally though, it is just one particularly obnoxious character, and it's great when they finally get it. In this film, this goes for every character and you have to spend the entirety of the film with them. The death scenes don't even deliver - I can't remember a single decent or scary scene. Also, you would normally have at least one redeemable character who you will want to survive - a 'hero' or 'final girl'. Read more ›

1.0 out of 5 stars Tower Block Of Trite 16 Oct 2013
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Despite its date and 'made for TV' feel, we thought this looks promising. It turned so hammy and predictable, with 'shock' scenes to laugh at. I'm so glad I bought this pre-owned for 65p and not top dollar

There's a New Year's party going on at one of the top levels of a huge tower block, when five of the guests receive text messages inviting them down to a secret party on the 27th floor. Two of them bring along people who weren't invited, but the original five have name cards waiting for them with comments such as "pig" and "two-faced". All seven of them are incredibly obnoxious and annoying, and within no time at all they're sniping at each other. With seemingly no host around, they begin to wander the corridors looking for a way out. They split up and one of the guests is murdered by a man dressed in black and wearing a mask, he's hung up by his feet, has his throat slashed and has a pig nose attached to his face, he was the guest with the pig comment on his name card. The rest of them must try and escape, before the killer gets them, or they kill each other.

The acting is dreadful for most of the film, every now and then it peaks to an average level before dropping again. These are very poor actors, but the script does them no favours, the title of my review is one example of the shocking dialogue. I'm not sure if it was the men or women who were the worst offenders, but attractiveness is no excuse to cast somebody if they can't act. Luis Camara co-wrote and directed this drivel, he hasn't done anything since which can only be construed as most other people that saw this also thought it was mediocre. At no point did he manage to create any atmosphere or tension, and a lot can be forgiven if the death scenes are brilliant, but apart from the first death to a degree, even they're bland.

There's so many reasons I disliked this film, the awful acting has already been mentioned.
