Product Description

Review

Jean Campbell does an outstanding job of presenting and describing what the steampunk style is all about. Quoting her definition- 'Generally, Steampunk is a fashion, design and popular-culture phenomenon that combines romance and technology. Among its many influences are futurism, time travel, and the Victorian Age.'Although Steampunk has been around for over 20 years many people have never heard this term. Jean does an incredible job of presenting jewelry designs and step by step instructions including the materials list for each project. Not only do we get the instructions on how to make these fascinating pieces, we also are introduced to the whole genre of Steampunk. Included throughout the book are sidebars on Steampunk in general- such as books, movies, fashion, animations, bands, and sculpture all depicting the Steampunk style. A sampling of the Table of Contents includes: Basic jewelry-making techniques The Anachronist Necklace Captured Time Ring Gearrings Time Travelers Necklace Machinery in Motion Necklace Dirigible Aviatrix Necklace Tick Tock Drop Earrings Tempus Fugit Pendant Gallery of Steampunk Designs The jewelry projects listed in this book are beginner to intermediate level and represent a good cross-section including necklaces, rings, bracelets and earrings. I ve always been a fan of sci-fi and the Victorian Age so I found this to be a perfect fit. Well written, fabulous pictures and detailed instructions make the book a real winner. Let your imagination run wild using this book as a guide to the world of Steampunk. Your collection of jewelry has never looked like this before!...Bella online, December, 2009...It is fun of beautiful pieces of steampunk jewelry. I just recently got into steampunk and always looking for ideas on my steampunk crafts. This is so beautifully done with wonderful ideas and pictures to go from. If you are into steampunk or vintage jewelry, I highly recommend this book. --Craftblips, January, 2010

Steampunk is a popular culture movment that combines romance and technology and is influenced by the Victorian era and 19th century futuristic writers. The 13 projects featured in this beautiful book use pieces found or horded, leather scraps, charms, printed paper, wire, vintage watches, brass and copper to create one of a kind, edgy, unusual and thought provoking jewellery. each piece of jewellery tells a story, evokes a memory or is simply quirky and fun. --Making Jewellery, April, 2001

I received this book recently and was delighted with it. In addition to the projects there are short sections on various aspects of Steampunk style every so often. These give fascinating insights into the Steampunk Movement and provide a background to the projects. The illustrations are very good and the instructions clear. If I have any reservations with the book it would be that the lists of materials are fairly lengthy - however I feel that the book should/could be used to get a feel for the style, the techniques and the materials and then readers can use whatever comes to hand to create similar items.

Steampunk Style 24 April 2010
Format:Paperback
I already make and sell jewelry, and was looking to try out new techniques, which is why I got this book.

It is a well laid out book, and has good photos and instructions of the jewelry projects.
I think the great thing about the book is you can take the project ideas and adapt them; to make the item, detail for detail would be exhaustive as it would take some time to gather all of the bits and pieces needed- and then it wouldn't be as unique.
The book also has some info and history of the steampunk style culture.

Definitely a handy book to have if you like the steampunk style and want to create some great accessories to wear.

Some great ideas to start you designing , the title is a bit misleading as it covers more than just jewelery but still a good intro to the topic.

Steampunk style jewellery
This is a nice book with lots of good ideas. Unfortunately it is American and therefore uses different suppliers from us, so some of the components are not available here.

This is an extremely interesting book. I would say that people buying it should regard it more as a book of ideas rather than trying to copy the actual pieces illustrated in it. Read more
