Book Description

An unputdownable romance which will steal the show!

Product Description

When Nell Bradley discovers a set of dilapidated gallopers - an antique roundabout with carved horses - for sale, she is delighted. She and her brothers, Danny and Sam, run a traditional fair which, so far, has afforded them a good living. But times are changing, and Danny and Sam are keen to expand by investing in more ambitious rides. Nell, more of a traditionalist, loathes the new technology. And she's also having second thoughts about the man to whom she is unofficially engaged. So Nell buys the gallopers secretly and arranges to have them renovated. But what she hadn't realised is that the horses come with their own very sexy restorer . . .

5.0 out of 5 stars Her best book yet, 1 Feb 2002

Christina Jones just gets better and better.
Now I know, I've tried to read her books in order; not
that there's a lot of overlap, but it's just rather nice when you see references to past events and 'old friends' turn up (in this case Georgia and Rory and colleagues from Diadem Transport).
A really, really, heartwarming book. The cover belies the contents; as a male I thoroughly enjoyed this book, which is knowledgeable about travelling fairs and really makes you want to go to one RIGHT NOW!
I'd compare Christina Jones to Dick Francis in some ways; the plots aren't thrillers, but they delve deep into a particular area and come up with enthralling details, as well as a wonderful (but generally non-violent) plot.

5.0 out of 5 stars UNMISSABLE, 10 Jan 2001

Another pleasing book by Christina. I have read the first 2 of Christina's books and it was really nice that Georgia and Rory have turned up in this book, you really feel at home when you know the charactors. It was really interesting because it takes you behind the scenes of the fair ie our local fair. Wouldn't it be so nice if it was true and the traditional fair came back rather that these big things. As you are reading it you can taste the candyfloss and smell all the goodness of the fair I had the Corrs playing whilst I was reading it and when I hear the album playing now it really reminds me of parts of the book. If you have not read this then go and get yourself a copy even better buy all of her books they are all truely fantastic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stealing the Show - one not to miss!, 11 Jun 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Stealing The Show : (Paperback)
With the completion of Stealing the Show, I've now read all of Christina Jones' published works (including the 2001 Nothing to Lose). So now what do I do?? I can't bear to wait until 2002 for another. I cannot find the words to describe what a fabulous storyteller she is. She finds these quirky worlds to bring us - in this case, the life of "travelers" who put on small fairs. Then, she always draws such rich and complex characters. The bad guys aren't total caricatures, the good guys have flaws. Nell and Jack are so wonderful - Nell refusing to see her beauty, seemingly willing to follow traditional paths (not just the old rides, but the idea of a marriage to make her family happy) but ultimately following a strong moral compass. Jones uses Jack to illustrate how these same issues apply out in the "real" (non-fair) world, since he struggles with following with the family business and making a marriage that appears to be perfect. Stealing the Show deals with some hard issues - spouse abuse, abortion (and its impact on men), infidelity. Without getting to heavy, it also doesn't treat these subjects lightly. I highly recommend this - and any other Christina Jones - book. (And look for the traveling fair in Jumping to Conclusions!)
