Product Description

Product Description

You don’t need to be a genius, you just need to be yourself. That’s the message from Austin Kleon, a young writer and artist who knows that creativity is everywhere, creativity is for everyone. A manifesto for the digital age, Steal Like an Artist is a guide whose positive message, graphic look and illustrations, exercises, and examples will put readers directly in touch with their artistic side.

When Mr. Kleon was asked to address college students in upstate New York, he shaped his speech around the ten things he wished someone had told him when he was starting out. The talk went viral, and its author dug deeper into his own ideas to create Steal Like an Artist, the book. The result is inspiring, hip, original, practical, and entertaining. And filled with new truths about creativity: Nothing is original, so embrace influence, col- lect ideas, and remix and re-imagine to discover your own path. Follow your interests wherever they take you. Stay smart, stay out of debt, and risk being boring—the creative you will need to make room to be wild and daring in your imagination.

2.0 out of 5 stars Left empty 27 April 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
At first look, it's high energy and born out of love. The drawings are fun and there's some sage advice about getting started and working with others and keeping a day job and being physical in a digital world. And yet...after... I still felt hungry. No big take-away from the work. Perhaps I've been round the block too many times: I gave it to my painter-photographer son; he thinks it's cool. What do I know?

2.0 out of 5 stars Cliche and Boring 24 May 2012

It's a book full of cliches. I found nothing new in this book. If you want to be inspired or inspire other people yu should read Paul Arden's Whatever You Think, Think The Opposite book.

4.0 out of 5 stars A portable reminder 15 April 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Although this is a small short book,it's great at being a portable reminder of how to live a creative life.Creative as in any form of self-expression that's important to you.Part practical, part inspirational what Austin Kleon does is describe what drives us.The title comes from his acknowledgement that nothing is new and nothing can be new;what we do is synthesise and add a different slant to other people's work. The other point I took from himis "find yourself as you do the work" instead of waiting until you know what you're doing.
