5.0 out of 5 stars Medway between a Rock and a Who place... 21 Jan 2003
Format:Audio CD
Whack The Kinks, The Who, The Sonics, The Stooges and The Ramones into a Moulinex 4-speed 'Easy Clean' blender and set to "heavy mince". What you get is an awful lot of Rhesus A and bone marrow, one hell of a lawsuit and a glorious tripartite cacophany that is The Buff Medways.

"Strange Kind of Happiness" out-Who's the Who. "Sally Sensation" sees The Who invite The Sonics over for a kebab and dominoes. "Ivor" bloody well IS The Who!!!

"Vanessa Does Favours" is Ray Davies singing through a traffic cone in a midget submarine. "Dawn Said" sees Ray, Johnny Ramone and David Gedge arsing around in the studio after the caretaker's locked up for the night. "You Piss Me Off" is the 'B' side of Ray, Johnny Ramone and David Gedge arsing around in the studio after the caretaker's locked up for the night.

"Steady The Buffs" is a thumping lo-fi beauty - the gift that keeps on giving. What the Medways save in production costs they spend like princes on power.

So you like boy bands!! Enlist with the Buffs, because even if you don't like it, you will...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic 1 Dec 2007
Format:Audio CD
Lets get one thing straight. I am a Billy Childish fan/obsessive. However I can remain objective. Billy has made a hell of a lot of records, I don't think I own even a fraction of them and no not all are good.

This is the first Childish record I bought and perhaps for that reason it remains close to my broken heart. This is where Billy brought sixties pop into play (The Who/Hendrix) and it is quite a polished record by Childish standards.

One of the secret ingredients here is Johnny Barker, bass player, who provides brilliant, falsetto backing vocals. Wolf Howard (Drums) has established a rapport with Billy which continues today (MBEs) but there is something that sounds like the early stages of a love affair on this record. Wolf is aggressively funky!

I would like to point out the highlights on this record but the highlights
begin with track 1 and end with track 12. Buy it!....its slightly better than Westlife.

4.0 out of 5 stars English garage-punk blues. 2 Jun 2002
Format:Audio CD
Billy Childish, author poet, musician, realeases his 100th recording with his latest band the Buff
Medways. An influence of the White Stripes,Childish plays his punk blues in nostalgic but what sounds a refreshing way.
Stripped down riff based songs reminiscent of the Jams angry energy.Songs such as 1959 with an
early sixties feel, with wry sometimes comic
lyrical content make this cd highly reccomended.
