I bought this because it works on all hobs, including induction.

Before use, washed it in soapy water, dried it, and rubbed oil into the bottom.

Next day, used it on a gas hob (it will be used later on induction) to brown meat, brown onions, sweat carrots, added more vegetables and flavourings, and made a stew in it. Following the instructions, didnt add salt until later in cooking - else, they say, it will pit the metal surface and be harder to clean later on.

One thing I noticed was the heat distribution of the bottom is good. Needed to use a lower heat setting than any other pan we own. So, this pot will save money when cooking, as it will use less fuel.

The lid has a clever section with holes, if you line this up with the pouring lip of the pot, you can drain cooking water away - no more juggling the lid, or needing to use a colander. However, I will use a colander to chop cooked veg with a knife, as with cabbage, else we would damage the pot.

Altogether, after first use, this seems to be a well designed pot, and it is quite a bit cheaper than the other pans of this size I found which will work on induction hobs.

Oh, and delivery was quite fast too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Pot I have ever had 20 Oct 2010
This is definitely the best pan I have ever bought. I have used it in my oven several times and had no problem with any smells etc. Do be aware tho that the silicone handle covers do get hot so you need oven gloves still.
Fantastic size cooks a stew for 8 with no problem.
I wish they nade this in a range of sizes as the 2 handled draining is a boon for anyone with weak wrists.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Stock pot 26 Nov 2009
I never intended to use this in the oven so cannot comment on its ability for that, however it is a great sized pot for the hob (mines induction) and works brilliantly. Its a perfect size for a 2.5KG ham, excellent for family entertaining

5.0 out of 5 stars Misleading reviews 17 Dec 2010
Don't be put off this product by the reviewers saying it can't be used in the oven. It performs perfectly in the oven and I've used it for the purpose many times. No doubt the reviewer who had problems when she burned the handles took no notice of the clearly stated guide to maximum oven temperatures. The maximum temperature is fine for any casserole unless it's bought by a cook who hasn't a clue. It's not a roasting tin... it's a casserole. The Ready Steady Cook label shouldn't put you off. This isn't just rubbish with a well-known label. It's a quality product and I notice that it's much heavier than a casserole rated five stars by Amazon users. I've had this pan in use for months and it shows no signs of wear or problems and I suspect that if you know casseroles are not cooked at high temperatures it's the pan for you. The only minor adverse comment is that the maximum usable temperature should be stamped or etched onto the pan, not just printed on the cardboard packaging. Certainly it can be used at 140C without a problem as I have done myself, many times. I can't imagine why I'd use it at a higher temperature although the maximum may be more than this.

5.0 out of 5 stars The pot to end all pots 18 Dec 2010
Verified Purchase
This cooking pot is marvellous as a former professional chef I do have a passion for a good cooking pot, this is very good. A lot of thought has gone into its design and manufacture. The sandwiched base distributes the heat very well and the lid with its steam vets/straining facility is very good too. Filled with a stew for instance its contents will feed 6-8 comfortably and as it's oven friendly I suggest cooking your dumplings in the stew; simply remove the lid 30 minutes before service time and drop your individual dumplings into the stew continue cooking without the lid for 20-30 minutes for sumptuous crispy topped dumplings. If you're thinking of this by way of a gift then whoever receives it will thank you for years of useful service.

2.0 out of 5 stars Casserole dish? 20 Nov 2009
Please note that this is not a 'casserole' dish. It is a stew pot. You cannot put this product in the oven (which is where you usually use a casserole dish). The handles and lid are made of a type of rubber which I thought was heat proof but I ended up with a strong smell of burning rubber and smoke. Please be aware of this if purchasing. I sent mine back as it did not do the job I thought it was meant for.

2.0 out of 5 stars dissatisfied 4 Jan 2011
By JG
I have just purchased this pan and thought it would be good. i followed the instructions . I put it in the oven on a slow heat and after about 10 minutes there was a smell of burning rubber. I thought i had better not risk it so i put it on the hob , again on a slow heat but everything has stuck to the bottom of it despite my stirring it several times. Going to take me ages to clean it off
