What does one say about Chungking ?
Each track is subtly different, each sound adding energy and depth to an amazingly powerful, yet sometimes so subtle, voice. I could say this album is Rock, or Lounge, or Electronic, or all three but I would not dare to actually categorise Chungking, simply because Chungking sounds like ..... Chungking !!

The tracks in this album cover a wide range of tempo and style, from the upbeat dance tempo of "Itch and Scratch", the eponymous track and "Ticking", to the beautiful but heart-rending lyrics of "I love You". I own both "The Hungry Years" and this album and I wait, impatiently, for the next one to be released.

As a fan of Chungking's addictive songs: World of a Thousand Suns and Voodoo, these left me waiting for the next album. In comparison, this new album seems a bit different. It's a little more upbeat, and it seems to deviate from the usual chill, easy-going feel of the above mentioned songs. At first, it took me a bit, after going through all of the songs to be satisfied with the cd, but overrall this a good, cohesive album.

Perhaps the best tracks are Love Is Here To Stay, followed by Ticking, I Love You, and Itch Scratch with their crisp, steady sound. I Love You is very intoxicating, great to sit back and chill to. And give Baby a chance, it gets better after a few verses. The more and more that I listened to it, I began to liken this perhaps new sound to that of Goldfrapp, in particular Love Is Here To Stay--this sort of equated Goldfrapp's Ooh La La from the Supernature album. And yet, there are still some echos of that sort of 70's-ish vibe that alludes to some of their older songs such as World of a Thousand Suns.

The album art reminds me of some mid-late eighties Peter Gabriel video.

Overly Processed Filler 22 Oct 2007

Being a fan of Euro electro-pop, this record sounded like a sure thing. Several great reviews in the press, beautiful female vocalist, a production credit by none other than Richard X pretty much guaranteed my interest. Sadly, STAY UP FOREVER fails to live up to the hype. The album has an '80s sound with synths pulsing and bleeping and the songs sport a few catchy choruses, but there never seems to be much of a song attached to the hook. Worse still, "Slow It Down", the Richard X track is a forgettable rehash of Kylie's "Slow" minus the erotic heat. Save your money and save up for Dragonette's import GALORE which covers similar territory with breathtaking results.

A fan of their first album? Then if you are open to change then you probably accepted the style, with most songs being a tighter, upbeat, and accessible 'Voodoo.' Look at their promo/myspace pix; they're having so much fun, and they didn't want to stay in the melancholy vibe forever. It's still as creative as their last album in my opinion. The beauty is all still there. This is the album that Goldfrapp's "Supernature" really should've been.
